| | Tornadoes Beyond The Surf CD Tornadoes Discography of CDs
Compilation drawing principally from their Aertaun 45s and Josie LP, with the addition of three previously unissued cuts (including two Link Wray covers), a number ("Charge of the Tornadoes") previously available only on a Sundazed release, and a 25-minute interview with the group, conducted in the 1990s. The Tornadoes were an above-average, though not upper-echelon, Californian surf band, notable for writing much of their material and possessing one of the better early surf guitarists in Roly Sanders. The vocals are kept to a minimum, which is a good thing. The interview is pretty interesting, including a couple unexpected stories about how a young Frank Zappa helped out on some of their vintage recordings. ~ Richie Unterberger
This Sundazed release collects the best of the group's material from their ultra-rare album & scarce singles, plus adds 3 vintage, massive reverb swats that have remained unissued for over 35 years! 'The Swag', 'Who Was That?!?!' & 'Raw-Hide'. A total of 18 tracks-plus an onboard gab-session with all five of the original members.
Liner Note Author: Gerald Sanders.
The Tornadoes: Jesse Sanders (guitar); Gerald Sanders (bass guitar); George White, Leonard Delaney, Norman Sanders.
Personnel: Gerald Sanders (vocals); Norman Sanders (guitar); George White (saxophone); Leonard Delaney (drums).

$9.69 Punk rockers the Stranglers have their RATTUS NORVEGICUS album expanded for this reissue, with three additional songs included.

| | Lost Legends Of Surf Guitar I: Big Noise From Waimea! CD (2003)
Beyond The Surf CD music
$14.39 This collection of 20 surf instrumentals, all recorded in 1963 and 1964, is very much what you might expect of an anthology of lesser-known surf music on a quality reissue label such as Sundazed. That is, it's good, though not nearly as good as the very best '60s instrumental surf music anthologies, and can be confidently ...
| | Garage Beat '66, Vol. 1: Like What, Me Worry?! CD (2004)
Beyond The Surf music CDs
$14.65 Sundazed's Garage Beat '66 series of mid-'60s garage rock takes much the same approach as hundreds, if not thousands, of such compilations that have been issued since the late '70s. Each volume has an assortment of tracks from all over North America, many of them rare, none of them national hits, and most of the acts known only within their region, if at all. The emphasis is on raw, fuzzy outrage, often inspired by (but not as polished as) the more R&B-aligned end of the British Invasion. It's not as good as the Nuggets box set (in part because it's lacking ...

| | Craig Chaquico Shadow And Light CD (2002)
Beyond The Surf music CDs
$11.15 Responding to audiences that have encouraged his dual guitar approach in his live performances, Craig Chaquico features both electric and acoustic guitars on four of the ten songs included on his seventh Higher Octave Music recording, Shadow and Light. The CD offers an exciting blend of romantic ballads, up-tempo jams, and a cover of the jazz classic "Compared to What" with popular saxmen Warren Hill and Jeff Kashiwa. The music on this recording is also about the places people experience between the philosophical dualities of light and darkness in life, a concept that Chaquico explored due to the events in America on September 11, 2001. Together with his band and guest musicians, Chaquico captures the essence of life's pulsating highs and lows on the title track, "Shadow and Light." Its ethereal introduction floats into a melodic guitar line, reminiscent of life's good times, that lingers with you long after the song is ...
