Great Lost Great Scots Album!!! CD

THE GREAT LOST GREAT SCOTS ALBUM!!! is a collection of tracks recorded in 1966 for an album that was never released. Eleven of the 16 tracks are previously unreleased; the other five were released on singles.

Recorded in January and May 1966. Includes liner notes by Bill Schnare, and an interview with Dave Isner conducted by Greg Prevost.

This actually has only five of the dozen cuts the Great Scots released officially; the rest of the 16-song disc is filled out by unreleased tracks recorded by the band in May 1966. It's tight mid-'60s rock with a wide range, but not much personality, although executed fairly enjoyably. "Show Me the Way" (included in the Pebbles series) is here and is an obvious highlight, though they sound a lot like Manfred Mann on Goffin & King's "Honey and Wine" and "What Am I to Do," and "Lord, I'm So Lonely" (an obscure Billy Vera composition) is pretty fair blue-eyed soul in the Animals mold. Barely any of the songs were written by the group members themselves, which prevents this from being a notable effort even for '60s collectors, although they most likely could have been stars if they'd been picked up by big-time producers and given commercial material, à la Paul Revere & the Raiders. ~ Richie Unterberger

A Sundazed collection of 16 rarities from 1966 by this Canadian quintet that specialized in fuzz guitars, Beatles-like harmonies & Jagger-ish vocals. Richard Delvy produced all cuts. 11 are previously unreleased (listed first): 'You Know What You Can Do', 'On The Road Again', 'I Ain't No Miracle Worker' (versions 1 & 2), 'Someone That I Can't See', 'Don't You Believe Them', 'I Can Do It Better', 'Lord, I'm So Lonely', 'What Am I To Do', 'Help Myself' (instr), 'Honey & Wine 'Ball & Chain', 'Show Me The Way', 'The Light Hurts My Eyes' 'Blue Monday' & 'Run, Run For Your Life'.
