Must Have in your Christmas collection I, too, grew up listening to this album, along with many others of it's time. Through the years, the album dissapered. Having the CD is almost as good. The songs bring me back to Christmas' long ago, and help us remember the real meaning of the season-peace and love. The only thing I miss are the scratches and popcorn from the album. But then again, maybe I won't miss them at all. Submitted by Rick (Chicago, IL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 3 of 5 found this helpful.
Festive Christmas Instrumental I remember growing up with this album, and it was always played over the Christmas holiday. Tunes are upbeatand really make your world seem Christmas-y Submitted by keith.barber (Milwaukee, Wis.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 2 of 4 found this helpful.
Brings back childhood memories The album I owned back in the 60's. I was so surprised to find it on CD. It is just as I remembered in Christmases past. I lived in Germany back in the 60's and so this has very special meaning for me.

Family tradition... I'm not sure where or exactly when my parents got this album for x-mas, but it turned into a family tradition. It's just not x-mas without it.
The horn work is exceptional. And with the bit of voice added in as another instrument well its just exceptional! Submitted by lbellaci (Marina Del Rey, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 2 found this helpful.

Beginning with Louis Armstrong, through Harry James and Bobby Hackett of the Jackie Gleason Orchestra, the trumpet was once a king in pop music. This was true even in '60s-era easy listening, as demonstrated by the success of Al Hirt, Herb Alpert, and the ultra-shrewd German musician Bert Kaempfert, who probably was as responsible as anyone else in rehabilitating Germany's post-war world image. The Taragon label is re-releasing all of Kaempfert's many albums in an ambitious reissue project. This excellent compilation is the one to have however.

| | Andrew Bird Noble Beast CDs (2009) Bonus CD; Deluxe Edition
Christmas Wonderland album
$22.39 A more organic and subdued outing than its predecessor, ARMCHAIR APOCRYPHA, 2009's NOBLE BEAST finds singer/violinist/guitarist Andrew Bird further refining his elegant, erudite brand of indie-pop. From the breezy, lilting opener "Oh No" to the wistful, strings-only "On Ho," the Chicagoan performer wanders purposefully through his own strange musical landscape, stopping off for fascinating moments such as the chiming "Fitz & Dizzyspells" and the percussive "Not a Robot, But a Ghost." Although Bird's lit-major lyrics and dynamic, classically-minded arrangements may scare off listeners looking for more immediate thrills, those who allow BEAST to work its magic will be happily entranced by its considerable charms.
Released in 2007, Armchair Apocrypha proved that hyper-literate ...

| | Kim Stockwood I Love Santa CD (2006)
Christmas Wonderland album
$16.45 I Love Santa is an all-out celebration of Christmas at its most indulgent, chocolate-filled, and tinsel-laden, all the way from the silky rendition of "It's a Marshmallow World" right down to the Christmas pudding recipe tucked inside the jewel case. This is Kim Stockwood's first solo effort in seven years, and she dolls up holiday standards like "Silver Bells" and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" with the same sass and brass found on her previous albums. It isn't all bright and bouncy stuff; the mischievousness gives way to some poignant moments on the sepia-tinted "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and the earthy, lingering "Silent Night" (which features appearances by Stockwood's fellow Shaye members Damhnait Doyle and Tara MacLean). Stockwood wrote a couple new songs for I Love Santa. "Home This Christmas," co-written with Tim Bovaconti, is an ambling, bluesy homage to Stockwood's native Newfoundland, and the title track, penned just before the album went to print, is a jaunty ode to jolly old Saint Nick. These new songs rely on some pretty worn Christmas clichés, but what do you expect? This is harmless holiday fare, something that comes with the terrain of overcrowded shopping malls, flying reindeer, and fruitcake. Stockwood's unabashed, crinkle-nosed holiday cheer might send some Grinches running for the hills, but for everyone else (Stockwood fans especially) I Love Santa is a harmless holiday confection. ~ Margaret Reges
Kim Stockwood's "I Love Santa" promises to be a holiday classic. From the playful opening track "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm", Kim's effortless delivery and rich vocals will captivate you. The cd immediately revokes memories or another time - the music transporting you - to Radiocity, to Dean Martin's Vegas showroom and back to your favorite festive memories. The woman who brought you the commercial hits "Jerk" and "12 Years Old" has fashioned a sincere and heartfelt tribute to the musical standards of Christmas past. From the smile on Elvis "Santa Bring My Baby Back to Me" to the tender hopefulness of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas". Kim owns every note with feeling and style. Her ...
