Gary Lewis & the Playboys have never been taken too seriously by rock historians, which is somewhat a matter of prejudice, growing out of the idea (only partly true) that Lewis had a free ride, thanks to the help of his then superstar entertainer ...

Goodtime Feelgood Music from Jerry's Boy These times are hard on everyone. I am in my fifties and I would love to go back in time to the sixtes when I was young. Since the time machine hasn't been invented yet, I use music to get me there. These two lp's, now on one cd, are a great help. I had both on reel to reel tape back in the day and listening to them again was a real trip back in time. One thing I love is the new mix. The original lp had vocals in one speaker and the instruments in the other. I never did like that and this mix is a lot better. Besides the hits on this cd, the other tracks are good too. Most are covers but Gary gives them his own touch, aided by a young Leon Russell. Covers like "Needles and Pins", "Dream Lover" and "Travelin' Man" we've all heard before but here with a slightly different arrangement they sound fresh. There are other gems here that you may not have heard of like"Without a Word of
Warning" and "Voodoo Woman" that just blow me away. I also love the organ work especially on "Keep Searchin (We'll Follow the Sun)" and "Runaway". The latter has a organ solo that just screams out at you. Man I wish I was back there instead of here and now. But until that time machine gets built, I'll just listen to Gary and the boys. They'll bring me back to those days of yore. This CD is highly recommended for young and old. Submitted by Bluewolfboy (SoCal) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
