Percy Faith Plays Continental Music/Percy Faith Plays Romantic Music/Plays Romantic Mus album for sale by Percy Faith was released Jul 25, 2000 on the Taragon label. A two-LPs-on-one-CD reissue totaling nearly 80 minutes in length, this disc features two of Percy Faith's most beloved albums. Percy Faith Plays Continental Music/Percy Faith Plays Romantic Music/Plays Romantic Mus songs PERCY FAITH PLAYS CONTINENTAL MUSIC is not exactly an ethnographically accurate title; other than "April In Portugal" and a couple of Italian melodies, nearly every song on this album is French in origin. Faith's famously elaborate arrangements aren't exactly true to the spirit of the lonely boulevardier, but they're quite agreeable and lovely. Percy Faith Plays Continental Music/Percy Faith Plays Romantic Music/Plays Romantic Mus CD music is a 2-disc set with 24 songs. ...See Full Description

Bouquet/Bouquet of Love CD (1999) Top Seller
Percy Faith Plays Continental Music/Percy Faith Plays Romantic Music/Plays Romantic Mus album for sale Possibly Percy Faith's two most famous LPs other than A SUMMER PLACE, 1959's BOUQUET and the 1961 sequel BOUQUET OF LOVE are quintessential Faith. Lushly orchestrated, with Faith's trademark keening strings, these two albums epitomize orchestral easy listening music. The song selection is heavy on the standards, including Johnny Mercer's "Laura," "The Song from Moulin Rouge," "Ebb Tide," Rodgers and Hart's "Blue Moon" and "Stella By Starlight." While the quality of the remastering job is very good, unfortunately, three songs were excised from BOUQUET OF LOVE for space considerations.
Includes liner notes by Mark Marymont.

Great Folk Themes/American Serenade CD (2002)
Percy Faith Plays Continental Music/Percy Faith Plays Romantic Music/Plays Romantic Mus songs This Percy Faith two-fer combining the albums Great Folk Themes and American Serenade works well on one disc, providing pleasant, easy listening versions of folk and country themes. This is an interesting combination of albums that investigate traditional folk themes, including "Home on the Range," "Sloop John B.," and "Michael Row the Boat," with tunes written by Bob Dylan, Hoyt Axton, and Duke Ellington. These LPs were originally released on Columbia Records and had been out of print until Collectables reissued them in 2002. ~ Al Campbell

Music of Brazil!/Shangri-La! CD (2002)
Percy Faith Plays Continental Music/Percy Faith Plays Romantic Music/Plays Romantic Mus CD music This discount-priced two-fer combines a couple of modestly successful Percy Faith albums on international themes: 1962's Music of Brazil! and 1963's Shangri-La!. Faith delighted in assembling collections of music with overseas flavors, but he never really ventured very far, usually preferring to present his interpretation of some other North American's interpretation of what the music of another clime sounded like. Music of Brazil! may have been released in the teeth of the samba fad of the early '60s, but Faith's take on the style derived from an earlier Brazilian craze of the early '40s, when the U.S. government was encouraging friendship with South America as a bulwark against Nazism. This is more swing music with Latin percussion, and it includes Faith's versions of hits like "Brazil," associated with Xavier Cugat. Of course, Faith had one of the biggest hits of his career in 1952 with "Delicado," and a new recording is included. Shangri-La! has even less legitimacy as a musical journey through the South Seas and the Far East, as its title, referring to a fictional utopia, suggests. These are Faith's arrangements of songs written mostly in Broadway and Hollywood for shows and films set in Asia and the Pacific Rim, such as Kismet and The King and I. The strings weave an alluring mystery, but the music was not made on location. ~ William Ruhlmann

Percy Faith and His Orchestra: Born Free / Windmills of Your Mind CD (2002)
Percy Faith Plays Continental Music/Percy Faith Plays Romantic Music/Plays Romantic Mus buy CD music The two albums contained on this discount-priced two-fer each contain Percy Faith's arrangements of movie music of the 1960s. Born Free was originally titled The Academy Award Winner and Other Great Movie Themes when it appeared in the spring of 1967 because, while Faith had recorded all five of the 1966 Oscar nominees for best song on it, the LP was printed before the winner, "Born Free," had been announced. Windmills of Your Mind, in 1969, appeared after the Oscar ceremony, but it, too, featured all five of the year's nominees. Also included were themes that, while they might not have been "songs" in the Academy sense, were Oscar-worthy, such as "Somewhere My Love (Lara's Theme From 'Dr. Zhivago')," from Maurice Jarre's score, which won the 1965 original scoring award. There were also ringers, such as "How Are Things in Glocca Morra?," which had been written for Finian's Rainbow, the 1947 Broadway musical that didn't earn a film treatment until 1968. Faith featured his own work in "Song From 'The Oscar,'" taken from one of the handful of film scores he composed, and the curious "Elvira's Theme," actually a treatment of Mozart's "Piano Concerto in C-Major, K. 467," which had been featured in the 1967 film Elvira Madigan and which Faith disingenuously claimed a composing credit for. More than 30 years after the albums were recorded, some of the tunes remained familiar and enjoyable -- "Georgy Girl," "Somewhere My Love," "A Man and a Woman," "Born Free," "This Is My Song," "Alfie," "How Are Things in Glocca Morra?," "The Windmills of Your Mind," and "As Long As He Needs Me" (the last another ringer, from the stage musical Oliver!) -- while the rest were long forgotten. ~ William Ruhlmann

Bon Voyage! / Carefree CD (2003)
Percy Faith Plays Continental Music/Percy Faith Plays Romantic Music/Plays Romantic Mus songs There is no doubting that Percy Faith was one of the great arrangers in contemporary American music, but the nice side of the two-fer Bon Voyage/Carefree is that it not only explores Faith's delightful arrangements, but also showcases his clever compositions. Of the two records, combined here on one CD, it is Carefree where the too often overlooked Percy Faith as composer is explored. Every song in this section is a soundtrack for happy walking through the park on a beautiful snowy day. The first section of the disc, the album Bon Voyage, is a bit more serious, with Faith's renditions of several complex and challenging themes by a slew of composers, but no less cinematic. In fact, the whole 68 minutes serve as a magical aural theme park perfect for conducting imaginary orchestras while driving to and from the grocery store. Bon Voyage/Carefree is a fun listen. ~ Gregory McIntosh

Delicado/Amour Amor Amore CD (2000)
Percy Faith Plays Continental Music/Percy Faith Plays Romantic Music/Plays Romantic Mus album for sale The sequels-in spirit if not in name-to Percy Faith's earlier albums EXOTIC STRINGS, VIVA!, DELICADO and AMOUR, AMOR, AMORE continue the Toronto-born orchestra leader/arranger's exploration of Latin and southern European rhythms and styles. On DELICADO, Faith adds Brazilian sambas and Caribbean rhumbas to his repertoire, while the more sedate AMOUR, AMOR, AMORE finds Faith delving into French chanson and Italian romantic ballads alongside the Spanish and Portuguese styles he'd worked with before. All of the different styles work quite well with Faith's lush orchestral sense, and it's all very agreeable to those disposed to this sort of thing. Unlike some of the other two-fer CDs of Faith's albums, this 71-minute CD didn't require any songs to be excised from the original vinyl.
Includes original release liner notes.
2 LPs on 1 CD: DELICADO (1953)/AMOUR, AMOR, AMORE (1955).
Adapters: Percy Faith; Irving Aaronson.
