Gharnati
$13.15 Depending on which part of the country you're visiting, Croatia may appear as barren and mountainous with dramatic views of the Adriatic, fertile with rolling hills and deep rivers, or dense with gnarled forests. Croatia's kaleidoscopic geography -- which only covers an area about half the size of Louisiana -- is also reflected in the country's cultural heritage. On Songs and Dances from Croatia (Across the Drava River), the Zagreb Folk Dance Ensemble presents the culture's varied musical heritage through a series of 19 traditional songs. Named after Croatia's capital city, the Zagreb Folk Dance Ensemble has since its inception in May of 1945 strived to conserve Croatia's traditional musical and dance-oriented customs. Discordant works that are squeezed out of the bowels of misnices, gajdes, and dudes (different bagpipes); gleeful upbeat numbers that feature such stringed instruments ...
| | Mahmoud Ahmed Ethiopiques CD (1999) (Import)
Gharnati
$15.79 This disc follows the route that was being paved almost simultaneously by Afrobeat king Fela Kuti in Nigeria. It mixes traditional Ethiopian beats and rhythms with jazz, blues, and funk. Saxophones, groovy wah-wah guitars, and winding, bounding bass weave in and out of syncopated, driving beats on most songs. The overall tone is complex, yet accented by pleasing moments of bells, chimes and cymbals.

$7.29 This represents the pinnacle of Steely Dan's gradual transition from rock band to their own brand of jazz-influenced white soul. Guitars were replaced by keyboards, and saxophones became more common. Walter Becker and Donald Fagen were only interested in ...

Gharnati
$13.15 In the 21st century world of the Internet and digital downloads, the notion that recorded music can be an actual object as well as an auditory moment in time is rapidly becoming a quaint concept, and it changes to some extent the way recorded music travels through this world. These days, of course, it's stored on servers and portable handheld devices, gazillions of bytes of ones and zeros that are transferred mysteriously and sight unseen from one digital realm to another. But it wasn't always so. This wonderful, quirky, and fascinating anthology was compiled by Baltimore record shop owner Ian Nagoski from his personal collection of old 78s, brittle black discs made of ground stone, shellac and carbon that he found stacked and tucked away in countless thrift shops and attics. The 78s collected here were recorded all over the planet, from Bali to Scotland, and had somehow found their way into a stack of records in some dusty corner of a darkened attic, black mirrors, if you will, of their time in the world. That glorious feel of random and wondrous discovery is all over this set, and the music here is strange, beautiful, and rare in a way that will soon be impossible to replicate. ...
