Studies of the so-called "Mozart Effect" suggest that "whole-brain learning" is enhanced in certain musical environments. ACCELERATING LEARNING provides just the sort of relaxing musical background for studying and retaining information. Additionally, subliminal affirmations intoned by a gentle choir encourage focus, attention, and retention. This recording is recommended for students, writers, or anyone whose attention span is not what it could be.

| | Celestial Winds Oceans Of Love CD (1995)
Accelerating Learning music CDs
$13.25 There is a way to add sonority to Lisa Franco's Celtic harp. As one-half of Celestial Winds, she plays the electric Celtic harp on Oceans of Love. David Young is the other half. But this CD is about Franco. Her harp has a different depth and clarity with electric pick-ups. There are no synthesizers on this disc, but there are huge atmospheres and gentle -- yet subtle -- drones. Franco also plays the mandolin and dulcimers. Steve Reid is a guest performer on exotic percussion, and Tony Franklin is a guest bassist. ...
| | Ani Difranco Evolve CD (2003)
Accelerating Learning songs
$11.49 There could be no truer title for indie icon Ani DiFranco's 12th studio record than EVOLVE, as her career has always been the epitome of artistic evolution. Early on, she could have been criticized for something of a stasis in her furious folk (at least to the casual ear), but starting with DILATE's sultry, almost acid-jazzy diversion, the prolific Buffalo girl constantly experimented with new angles to present her vision of modern life from the political to more tender pursuits.
EVOLVE builds upon a turn she hinted at on her 2002 live set SO MUCH SHOUTING, SO MUCH LAUGHTER, injecting a distinctly jazzy touch to her stories of struggling characters. However, before cynical thoughts of Norah Jones's stratospheric success come up, remember that DiFranco was touring with this approach long before COME AWAY WITH ME was even released, and Ani's dabblings fall more on the Eric Dolphy side of the jazz fence than on Ms. Jones' more traditionalist torch style. On the title track and "Promised Land" she mixes in Woody Guthrie-like old-school protest folk, and on the aptly titled "Serpentine" she weaves snake-like from tangent to tangent over 10 minutes, hearkening back to her earliest freeform poetic days. While Ani has certainly evolved, this album shows that she hasn't discarded what won her fans in the first place.
EVOLVE won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Recording Package.
Personnel: Ani DiFranco (guitar, piano); Hans Teuber (flute, clarinet, saxophone); Julie Wolf (melodica, piano, Fender Rhodes piano, ...
