As Easy as 1-2-3 songs Albums really were shorter back in the mid-'60s, which means that this Australian compilation is not just a two-fer but a three-fer -- three whole Jan & Dean albums on one 75-minute disc. There was a little overlap among the three original LPs contained here, Drag City (1963), The Little Old Lady from Pasadena (1964), and Popsicle (1966, though most of it actually recycled tracks previously issued on 1964 LPs). As Easy as 1-2-3 CD music contains a single disc with 33 songs. ...See Full Description

Herman's Hermits Retrospective CD (2004)
As Easy as 1-2-3 album for sale If all you know about Herman's Hermits is that they had a couple of semi-novelty hits during the British Invasion with "Mrs. Brown, You've Got a Lovely Daughter" and "I'm Henry the VIII, I Am," RETROSPECTIVE aims to set you straight. Part of ABKCO producers Teri Landi and Jody Klein's grand plan to redress the balance of historical perspective on 1960s pop, this collection is a perfect overview of the band initially regarded as a safer version of the Beatles. While amiable, sunny pop is the dominant strain here, there are many tracks that further flesh out the group's profile. A version of Sam Cooke's "(What a) Wonderful World" points up the Hermits' soul leanings. The downright nasty "A Must to Avoid" and the witty, rocking "Museum" would sound right at home on a contemporaneous Beatles album. The Hermits' version of the Kinks' "Dandy" displays hipper tastes than many give Peter Noone and company credit for, and RETROSPECTIVE itself calls out for a 21st-century reappraisal of the band's catalog.

Herb Alpert / Tijuana Brass Lonely Bull CD (1962)

Remastered; Special Edition |
As Easy as 1-2-3 buy CD music There is a dreamy-eyed wonder about Herb Alpert's debut album. Within its Latin-esque affectations, the album is a moodily romantic concoction of easy listening and progressive sounds. "El Lobo" is a portrait of love's sorrow, tenderly painted with trumpets, guitars, and ghostly vocal choruses. "The Lonely Bull" is cinematic, with imagery of bullfights vividly implied by the opening sound effects of a roaring crowd. The deep electric guitar sounds like the Ventures, a popular 1960s instrumental rock group.
Even at the outset, Alpert's style has the elements that he carried with him over the succeeding years. There's a preference for solid and dominant percussion and tempos, making all his work specifically geared for the dancing set. The Mexican melodies lend a cross-cultural vitality that was to persist in the trumpeter's work.

Sam The Sham & The Pharaohs Wooly Bully/Li'l Red Riding Hood CD (2004)
As Easy as 1-2-3 songs This disc conveniently contains the first two albums by Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs, all you need (and practically all there is) from these zany Texas rockers. Domingo "Sam" Samudio and his merry men scored a smash in 1965 with the garage-rock classic "Wooly Bully," from the debut album of the same name. Curiously, WOOLY BULLY and its successor LI'L RED RIDING HOOD are presented here in reverse chronological order, but who cares? This is a generous helping of good-time rock & roll, completely free of pretense. Perennial party favorites, Sam & the Pharaohs worked up a zesty mix of R&B, Tex-Mex, and humorously unhinged frat-rock, spiced with an unabashed dollop of novelty appeal. What they lacked in originality ("Sorry 'Bout That" and "Pharaoh-A-Go-Go" are essentially "Wooly Bully" with different--or no--words, and "Little Miss Muffet" is "Li'l Red Riding Hood" with a different storybook setting) they more than made up for in exuberance, winning charm, and sheer rock & roll elbow grease.
2 LPs on 1 CD: LI'L RED RIDING HOOD (1966)/WOOLY BULLY (1965).
Recording information: 1965-1966.

As Easy as 1-2-3 CD music While 1990's THE BYRDS box set was an excellent representation of the group's illustrious and highly influential career, the 2006 four-CD set, THERE IS A SEASON, is a wonderful replacement. Working chronologically from pre-Byrds bands the Beefeaters and the Jet Set through their groundbreaking folk-rock and country-rock incarnations and culminating with the absolutely smokin' Clarence White era and the mid-'70s reunion line-ups, the collection makes a strong case for the Byrds being perhaps the single most important American rock band.
While Roger McGuinn was always the leader of the band (and its one constant member) it's startling to consider the number of musical giants that passed through the band, including David Crosby, Chris Hillman, Gene Clark, Gram Parsons, and the aforementioned White. The group's originals--from "I"ll Feel A Whole Better" to "Eight Miles High" to "Drug Store Truck Drivin' Man"--cast the Byrds as a brilliant songwriters collective; however, their ability to boldly interpret the work of others (ultimately making it their own) helped bridge the gaps between country, folk, rock & roll, and the Love Generation. The talent, legacy, and sheer beauty of the Byrds music can not be underestimated, and THERE IS A SEASON ensures that won't happen.
This 4 CD/DVD set, personally overseen by Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman, includes 99 audio tracks including 5 unissued tracks. All the key singles and album tracks, as well as pre-Byrds recordings and material unearthed while reissuing the Byrds catalog is included. The DVD includes 10 previously unreleased TV appearances from 1065-1967. Also included are extensive liner notes by Rolling Stone's David Fricke, as well as intros by Tom Petty, Gary Louris (of the Jayhawks), and other admirers.

All the Hits: From Surf City to Drag City CDs (1996)
As Easy as 1-2-3 buy CD music Digitally remastered by Kevin Reeves (April 1996, Capitol Recording Studios, Hollywood, California).
Jan & Dean are the quintessential Californian pop duo of the early 1960s; versed in surfing and hot-rod culture, they created music that provided a soundtrack for summertime fun. ALL THE HITS - FROM SURF CITY TO DRAG CITY lives up to its name, including Jan & Dean's numerous charting singles, as well as some rare outtakes and radio spots. These songs are breezy, lightweight, and well produced, and provide a nice setting for studio professionals such as Hal Blaine and Glen Campbell to work their magic. The sonic complexity of Jan Berry's productions was a serious influence on the young Brian Wilson, and one can easily follow the progression of '60s rock from "Dead Man's Curve" to the Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations." As such, Jan & Dean are more influential than many people realize, and one can only wonder of what might have been had Berry not gotten involved in a near-fatal auto accident that ended the group's career in 1966.
Includes liner notes by Steve Kolanjian.
Compilation producer: Ron Furmanek.
Jan & Dean: Dean Torrence, Jan Berry (vocals).
Liner Note Author: Steve Kolanjian.
Personnel includes: Jan, Dean (vocals); Phil Sloan, Steve Barri, The Matadors (background vocals); Ron Ralke's Music.
