Guttermouth's debut LP, originally released in 1990, is repackaged here (minus one track) for the Nitro label. The album proves that, even in the band's early days, Guttermouth was committed to pushing the limits of crudeness. The lyrics are silly and the music is standard SoCal punk fare; those who seek a less melodic and more politically incorrect version of NOFX should check it out, but all others should steer clear. ~ Andy Hinds

$11.49 From Orange County comes a band that reflects all the worst aspects of the Orange County punk scene. Of course they're homophobic, exemplified on the song "Big Pink Dress," where they sing frat-nitwit lyrics like, "I live with Bill/It's such a thrill/We get on so fine/We tend our garden every day/Sometimes we get 69." Guttermouth also try to be sarcastic and humorous à la the Vandals, but are about as funny as any random guy wearing a tank top and a baseball cap who just downed a 12-pack. Musically, they play by-the-numbers punk rock, never bothering to come up with a riff or lick that mildly deviates from the norm. Also, the singer's voice is intensely annoying and bratty, almost as bad as, say, Scrappy Doo. The only song that's halfway OK is "Corpse Rotting in Hell," a minute-long takeoff on death metal with a dog bark at the end that's worth a chuckle. But, mostly, Guttermouth (who do actually have their fair share of fans and are able to headline medium- to large-sized venues) make the Bloodhound Gang or Limp Bizkit sound like Beethoven. ~ Adam Bregman

Album Formerly Known As Full-Length songs
$10.15 Boston based indie-pop-shoegazers, The Hush Now, are releasing their debut self-titled album in late October. After a life changing experience in L.A. (full story below) Noel Kelly (former guitarist of L.A.\'s Cerulean) has solidified his life, line up, and track list for his debut with The Hush Now. For fans of Apples in Stereo, Guided By Voices, Shout Out Louds, Built to Spill, even Hall & Oates and 10cc, The Hush Now\'s upcoming release will easily fit in with your favorites. So, what do a van, a priest, and Queen have in common? They all added up to one momentous night that lead to the birth of The Hush Now. It was a dark and stormy night in Los Angeles when Noel Kelly found himself careening down a windy road trying to drive stick shift with a broken wrist. Unable to make the turn in time, he came to with a flagpole shooting through the windshield, Queen\'s \"Don\'t Stop Me Now\" on the radio, and one angry priest (due to one large dent in the side of his church) peering down at him. With this near-death / bone-shattering experience, Noel packed up and moved to Portland. It was there he began writing what we now know to be The Hush Now\'s debut self-titled album. Noel eventually landed in Boston, where he teamed up with Mike DiMinno, an elementry school teacher and full scale battle re-enactor. He also happens to be a session quality bass player with a dulcet voice and an amazing knack for etching stunning background vocals. Barry Marino (Often Airborne, This Car ...
