STUNK! My Side of the Mountain has always been one of my favorite books, but the movie is extremely dissapointing. My Side of the Mountain video It is totally different than the book! I know many people who are falconers, and I'm studying to become one myself, and all of them say that this movie is a total opposite of the book. Well, the plot and main character is the same, but the location is totaly different, and most of the characters that are in the book are extremely different than how they are in the movie. I also happen to know one of the people that appears in the third book in the series, "Frightful's Mountain", who says that even the author of the books herself, Jean Craighead George, was also unhappy with this movie version. And another thing, the falcon that plays Frightful in the movie is not a Peregrine Falcon, it is a young Saker Falcon, which comes from the Middle East. I personally think that this movie is in definate need of a remake. It just has to be done. If you are a naturalist, birder, hunter, or falconer who has read the book but not seen the movie, you better save money and leave this movie alone. Buy it if you want, but you'll be shocked. This book has inspired hundreds of master falconers, naturalists, and birders, but this movie version would be better off un-made. I've never liked this movie version of a classic book and I'm sticking with the book and it's two sequals (they'd make good movies too). By a reviewer (Katonah NY)
Quest for Nature Still a Joy To Watch Truely a beautiful widescreen print of a classic children's story; the film reflects its era, and with the quirky characters, both animal and human, is quite fascinating as a record of that era. And its appreciation of the environment places it ahead of its time.... By gracesgg (Brisbane, Australia) This review is for a different format.
Outstanding family nature film My Side of the Mountain film Outstanding family nature film that preserves the ideal of youth. Music is excellent, scenic backdrops are exceptional. For a look at a good family nature film circa 1968 this is a good choice. Includes family freindly psychedelic effects that seem out of place but none the less are an excellent example of the times. Buy it. By barryely (Cincinnati, Ohio) This review is for a different format.
eeehhhh...not at all like the book Some of my favorite things from the book were Sam's LEARNING to survive on his own - the little things. This movie is more like a review and MUCH MUCH different. Hardly a handful of quotes from the book even... Sad, but I still have my BOOK!! By Mark (Ithaca, NY) This review is for a different format.
