A tough detective teams up with a petty criminal who's been released from prison for two days to help catch his former cohorts. The jailbird dons an Armani suit and the unlikely duo dashes around San Francisco tracking the bad guys and trading insults. After surviving a few high-speed car chases and several shoot-outs, they overcome their mutual dislike for each other and begin to bond.

Jack Cates (Nick Nolte) is a tough, super-jaded cop who springs a hard luck robber, Reggie Hammond (Eddie Murphy), from jail for two days to help nab his former partners. The two men form a kind of friendship (based on mutual hatred) as they chase a trio of remorseless villains through the streets of San Francisco and Cates finds that Hammond's streetwise method of finding the criminals is possibly even more effective than his own by-the-book police procedures. Rounded characters and crackling comedy balance out this this box-office hit. A sequel, ANOTHER 48 HOURS, was produced in 1990.

Color by Movielab. This film was Saturday Night Live comedian Eddie Murphy's first film. 48 HRS. was followed by the sequel ANOTHER 48 HRS. Giorgio Armani designed Eddie Murphy's suit.

4 stars One of the better cop movies.
Good chemistry between the two stars, a compelling storyline, and a pair of really bad bad guys makes "48 Hours" one of the better cop movies. It's sometimes funny, and sometimes violent, but always worth watching. Except for the first "Beverly Hills Cop" film you won't find a better Eddie Murphy.

Let us all be thankful that Ozzy's retirement didn't stick. It supposedly lasted for three days, after which he got bored and started working on this project. Heavy, riff-intensive tunes, progressive song structures and a little psychedelia give OZZMOSIS a definite Sabbath flavor. Ozzy must have been in touch with whatever inspired early classics like PARANOID and MASTERS OF REALITY. Witness the extremely chunky "Thunder Underground," which can stand up next to "Sweet Leaf" and "Symptom Of The Universe" as an archetype of hard rock. The trippy guitar in "Ghost Behind My Eyes" and "Denial" are not some young Ozzy-wannabe going for a retro sound--this man was there, "Planet Caravan"ing. Still, this heavy metal daddy in touch with his roots is also hip to the genre's latest sound. OZZMOSIS has a live, up-front feeling, thanks to producer Michael Beinhorn (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden). Zakk Wylde's huge, raw guitar also plays a major role. He provides scorching solos, lush textures and juicy fills with a muscular tone and minimal effects--the perfect complements to Osbourne's songwriting. But more important than the raging guitars and the big sound is attitude. Ozzy's spunk has indeed rejected retirement. His songs still spew biting commentary at whoever will listen. "Your bulls**t culture licking can't stop the deathwatch ticking/You're only mortal after all," he warns on "Thunder Underground." Ozzy himself may not be immortal, but OZZMOSIS sounds like it is. Despite a never-ending succession of guitarists, ...

THE OZZMAN COMETH is a single CD collection of hits, previously unavailable recordings and one new track. Previously included a limited edition second disc containing 2 of the 4 previously unavailable recordings as well as an interview with Ozzy Osbourne. As if we needed another reason to believe that Ozzy Osbourne is God, along comes THE OZZMAN COMETH, a double CD retrospective of one of the most enduring and influential figures in heavy metal. Consisting mostly of his post-Black Sabbath solo work as well as a live version of "Paranoid," this collection's biggest asset is the so-called "basement tapes," never-before-heard rehearsal tapes of four classic Sabbath songs. Dating back to 1970, "Black Sabbath" and "War Pigs" are the songs that transformed a petty thief from Birmingham, England into the godfather of heavy metal. But if Sabbath cemented his place in the rock 'n' roll canon, his solo work raised him to legendary status. Working with former Quiet Riot guitarist Randy Rhoads, Osbourne set the tone for the 80's metal revival with songs like "Crazy Train" and "Mr. Crowley." Capping off the collection is a seventeen minute interview with Ozzy from 1988, where he speaks frankly about the ups and downs in his career (parents be forewarned: this is not for the faint of heart). Ozzy has made it through all the pitfalls of a life in rock and ...

As a frustrated songwriter struggles to pen the perfect musical number for an overbearing media mogul, he stumbles upon the magical fantasyland of Flooby-Nooby and becomes entranced by its eccentric, musically-inclined denizens--which include Elvis-impersonating canines and nasally-challenged cab drivers. Oscar-nominated animator Bill Plympton (YOUR FACE, MUTANT ALIENS) takes viewers on another surreal journey through his unique brand of contorted animation in this innovative feature-length film scored to Maureen McElheron's original blend of blues, country, and rock. Nominated for a Sundance Grand Jury Prize, The Tune is a strangely romantic comedy about Del, a struggling songwriter who must come up with a perfect ditty for slimeball ...

DC-area 7-piece ska outfit the Pietasters have been honing their sound since the early 1990s, and have developed into one of the most popular bands of the 3rd wave of ska. They built their reputation on their boisterous songs of carousal, drinking, sex, and their demand for audience participation at shows. After experiencing the DC punk scene during its heyday, the Pietasters toured relentlessly, and garnered a broad fan base with their catchy blend of reggae, soul, and punk music. The engaging explosion of energy that is a Pietasters show is very much in evidence here, as they perform before a raucous, rowdy audience at the legendary 9:30 club in their hometown of Washington, DC. The song list includes "Without You," "Something Better," "Fiesta," "Girl Take it Easy," "Pleasure Bribe," "Biblical Sense," "Perfect World," "Freak Show," Drinkin' and Drivin', and many others. This DVD features a live performance by The Pietasters, a 7-piece ska band from the DC area. Considered by many to be the masters of 3rd wave Ska, the Pietasters ...
