"Gallipoli" relates the events surrounding the ill-fated World War I battle, in which Australian and New Zealand troops set out to capture Istanbul. But mistakes made by upper-echelon military commanders led to disaster -- in which the army grunts suffered the most. The film, however, focuses not only on epic clashes, but on the friendships that developed between the soldiers on the field. ...See Full Description

| Great Movie The other reviewer was not entirely correct. Yes, the film has its slow moments, but the story is great, the acting is well done and its a great film overall. By a reviewer (PA, USA) |
| I could watch this movie over and over again. In fact I have. I've probably seen it 5 or 6 times since it was first released in 1981 and every single time I am sob-sob-sobbing my heart out at the end of the movie. It shows a lot of Australia - parts you don't normally see in movies -- a part of Australia I grew up in. It also captures the Aussie spirit. Watching this makes me proud to be Australian, even if Mel isn't really! By claire.middleton (Indiana) |
| weirs/gallipoli/a battle to short This movie is a slow level bore .The title is fooling for battle and action film buffs. However I would recommend just recording the battle scenes and adding them to the PBS program on the same subject matter. That program is ALL THE KINGS MEN.The two combat action segments from both make for one great war movie for the guy looking for a really great Gallipoli battle film. | Outstanding! I have seen this movie more times than I can count and each time it gets better. The story is brilliantly told. Gallipoli is undoubtedly the best movie I have ever seen of any genre of film. It is a classic and should get more recognition. By a reviewer (Norman, OK) This review is for a different format. |
| Gallipoli gallipoli is a good movie and i think that the end is a bit sad...this movie shows what has happened in the past and what people went through back then. I have done 2 assignments on gallipoli so far this term and there is a lot of information that you can count on. I recommend that everyone in Australia should be made to watch Gallipoli at least once in their entire lifetime... so get out there and hire the movie!
