This feature film DVD is 101 minutes. A 12th century court jester in England becomes involved with a desperate band of outlaws who are attempting to overthrow the king. A delightful comedy which features a particularly fine cast. Court Jester Reviews: "Danny Kaye's most jubilant vehicle, THE COURT JESTER, slowly has come to be regarded as a full-fledged comedy classic....A technicolor treat..."
-- Mike Clark, USA Today Court Jester Movie Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) One of the best comedies in the world Danny Kaye never needed much to work with to get us rolling in the isles. But the makers of this movie gave him a whole lot. A funny plot, great supporting actors, and free reign for Danny to crack us up. He always has a scene in each of his movies that get you laughing so hard you can hardly breath. In this one, for me anyway, it was the knighthood qualification tests. If anyone has ever seen "On The Double" with Danny Kaye, you'll find this scene as funny as the "To The Regement" scene.
Enjoy, and definitely add to your library. Submitted by Lisa (Montana, US) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Danny Kaye's Best ever The cinematography and color in this film are spectacular. The acting and comedy are first rate. The combination of drama and comedy, only the way that Danny Kaye can play it make this movie one if not his finest film. This film provides complete enjoyment from start to finish. This is a movie that the entire family will enjoy watching many times. A true classic film, if ever there was one. Submitted by a reviewer (Phoenix, AZ) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
"THE KING OF JESTERS & JESTER TO THE KING!" This is one of the greatest comedies of all time. In my opinion it's Danny Kaye's best film and he gives a performance of pure magic as a phony substitute jester who ends up being not just an unlikely hero but the epitomy of one as well. The film is a medieval lampooning of Errol Flynn's "The Adventures Of Robin Hood" with added dancing, singing and gaiety to go along with the swash and buckle. Basil Rathbone ('Sir Guy'from the previously mentioned film) even plays villainous 'Ravenhurst' (the rat-catcher' according to Kaye during one of many on-going hilarious scenes throughout the movie)and there is even added spice with a witch's 'curse' that transforms Kaye from stuttering wimp to undefeatable swordsman and back with each snap of the fingers. What more do you want? How about a nasty usurper king? A baby with a royal birthmark? Dancing midgets? A beautiful princess? A bully knight? Jousting? Laughs? Fun and great one-liners? You've got it!!! And there's also Glynis John's at her beautiful best as well!
This is one great fun movie from start to finish without any let up! I've loved it since I was a child and still do 30 years later!
They don't make films like this anymore!
An unmatchable vintage classic!

One of Kaye's best There is so much to recommend here: great music, spectacular cast, terrific plot, and of course the antics of Danny Kaye. The "pellet with the poison" scene is one of the funniest ever and not to be missed!
I just wish there were more of Danny Kaye's movies available on DVD. Submitted by a reviewer (Oregon, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Court Jester review
$10.29 One of John Ford's most cherished projects, THE QUIET MAN took years to finance but became one of his greatest box-office successes and an enduringly beloved classic. John Wayne stars as Sean Thornton, a retired American boxing champion trying to put tragedy behind him by returning to Innisfree, the bucolic Irish village of his birth. He purchases his birthplace from its current owner, enraging the wealthy and bellicose Red Will Danaher (Victor McLaglen), who had designs on the property. On arriving at his cottage, Thornton finds it being swept out by Mary Kate Danaher (Maureen O'Hara), a redheaded vision from whom he steals a not completely unwelcome kiss. After engaging in a subterfuge involving a horse race, some of the locals manage to get the disgruntled Red Will to allow his sister to be courted by the American. But the courtship ritual of the village is only the first of many local practices that the bewildered Thornton must endure if he is to have Mary Kate. Wayne gives a surprisingly ...

$28.65 Though he might be best remembered for sweeping epics such as DOCTOR ZHIVAGO and LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, renowned British director David Lean began his film career with small-scale character studies based on the plays of Noel Coward. Lean's fourth film, BRIEF ENCOUNTER--which was also his fourth and final collaboration with Coward--adapts the playwright's heartbreaking tale of two ordinary people caught up in the extraordinary power of love. Laura (Celia Johnson) is a seemingly happy, middle-class housewife who meets the equally married physician Alec (a young Trevor Howard in only his third screen role) when he removes a speck of dust from her eye at a London railway ...

HAMISH MACBETH: Acclaimed actor Robert Carlyle (TRAINSPOTTING) stars as police constable Hamish Macbeth in this TV crime drama series, which is set in a small Scottish town. Macbeth's relationship with the town forms the backbone of the plot; constantly bringing the various miscreants who dwell there to justice, he often deploys unorthodox methods to get the job done. However, the constant threat of promotion, and subsequent relocation ...
