| A Glorious Cinematic Triumph! The Bard would be proud of this fantastic movie version of his great, great play! Every word is true to the play and yet it is so easy to understand and even easier to Love! Romeo, Juliet, Mercutio, Tybalt and the Nurse are played to perfection by the cast members, and I doubt that a film version will EVER be done to equal Franco Zefferelli's production! A favorite moment is the wonderful song sung at the party where Romeo and Juliet first meet called, "What Is A Youth?" The movie is a glorious cinematic triumph! By robert_grimes (Houston, Texas) |

| THE Love Story Romeo and Juliet movie With all due respect to Laurence Olivier (who is the unbilled Chorus in this film) and Kenneth Branagh, this is all in all the most successful adaptation of a Shakespeare play to the screen. Yes, the text is severely cut and yes, those song lyrics are not Shakespeare's, but the spirit of the production is spot on. It's beautifully photographed and passionately performed, and Michael York and John McEnry give definitive performances as Tybalt and Mercutio respectively. It isn't Shakespeare's best play, but it is his best movie. By Jeff (Brooklyn, NY, USA) |
