Charles Bronson, Jeff Goldblum, Vincent Gardenia, William Redfield, Hope Lange - Dir:Michael Winner Paul Kersey is an architect living in New York City. One day while he was gone, hoodlums break into his apartment, killing his wife Joanna and gang raping his daughter, leaving her comatose. When the police cannot bring the criminals to justice, Kersey arms himself and begins a vigilante war on the streets, killing any muggers or thieves he encounters. Charles Bronson stars in a genre-defining vigilante thriller that made him a household name. A fatal sexual assault on his wife and daughter leads mild-mannered architect Paul Kersey (Bronson) to rethink the justice system in his own terms when he discovers the police to be ineffectual, bureaucratic slackers. He then starts to single-handedly reduce New York's crime rate by murdering every thug, scumbag, and no goodnik he lays eyes on. The film, despite its use of graphic violence as entertainment, was hailed as a socially complex and engaging movie that shocked audiences across the country. Subsequently, Bronson filmed a long series of films as Kersey that were heavier on violence than substance. However, DEATH WISH is a classic American film whose themes and style have been imitated by filmmakers all over the world. Theatrical release: July 1974
Feature film debut for actor Jeff Goldblum.

Death Wish review
$9.79 Arthur Bishop (Charles Bronson) is a "mechanic"--a hired killer. And he's the best at what he does, for he exterminates his targets in uniquely violent ways. But the 50ish Bishop is about to retire, so he takes on a young apprentice named Steve McKenna (Jan Michael Vincent). However, the mechanic finds himself caught between a rock and a hard place when he's hired to kill Steve's father.
MECHANIC is a pivotal film that brought together the talents of Charles Bronson and director Michael Winner. Had they not met here, there is a good chance they would not have gone on together to produce the three wonderful DEATH WISH films. Add to the combination of Michael Winner and Charles Bronson the excellent Jan Michael Vincent, and the result is an explosive, ...

Death Wish film
$9.29 The murky ethics surrounding tabloid journalism mix with serial-killer intrigue in this powerful film by Ecuadorian writer-director Sebastian Cordero. John Leguizamo stars as Manolo, a Miami-based television reporter for a Spanish-language, real-crime TV show called One Hour with the Truth. While researching a story on The Monster, a child murderer who has been terrorizing an area of Ecuador, Manolo and his crew wind up in the epicenter of a violent near-lynching when a traveling bible salesman named Vinicio (Damián Alcazár) accidentally hits a small boy with his car and kills him. Terrified of being murdered in jail by the boy's father, the badly beaten Vinicio hints that he is willing to reveal clues to the serial killer's identity to help Manolo get his story on the air. A strange psychological game develops between Manolo--who seems to think he can trick Vinicio into confessing his identity as The Monster (thus getting the scoop of the century)--and Vinicio, who wants to use Manolo's media power to get him out of jail in time to see his his wife give birth to his child.
Leguizamo shows star wattage in the lead; he's great in Spanish-language role, and he delivers a relatively restrained performance as a journalist letting ambition get the better of his judgment. Spanish actress Leonor Watling is also good as his sexy love interest. Gloomy location photography creates a rain-soaked, poverty-stricken ambiance that's memorably unsettling. Alfonso Cuaron and Jorge Vergara (Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN) produce this riveting film.
Star anchorman Manolo Bonilla (John Leguizamo) of the Latin broadcasting One Hour With the Truth program has flown down to a small town in Ecuador with producer Marisa (Leonor Watling) and cameraman Ivan (Jose Maira Yazpik) on the trail of a child serial ...
