| | Rotary Connection Songs/Hey Love CD - Import Rotary Connection Discography of CDs
The BGP subsidiary of Ace paired two of Rotary Connection's albums onto one disc in 1998. The following year, Raven would combine Aladdin and Dinner Music on one disc. Not only do the original albums deserve to be released separately, but both the BGP and Raven reissue two-fers ruin the strange sleeve artwork that adorned the original LPs. Songs/Hey Love looks particularly horrid, with an orgy of rainbow colors that bleed into each other. Charly once issued Songs on its own, but as of 2003, this combination was the only way to obtain Hey Love on CD. Despite these problems, it might be a dirty secret that these two albums on one disc make for a great introduction to the group. ~ Andy Kellman

Liner Note Author: Dean Rudland.Muzik (12/98, p.94) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...These 2 albums were most sought after, including the '90s jazz dancefloor classic 'Black Gold Of The Sun'. Timeless music." Rotary Connection Songs/Hey Love Songs Songs/Hey Love Review

Songs/Hey Love songs
$14.15 On A Few Miles from Memphis, recorded by pianist Harold Mabern in 1968, he's joined by tenors George Coleman and Buddy Terry, bassist Bill Lee, and drummer Walter Perkins for a bluesy, rhythm-filled set featuring familiar fare like "A Treat for Bea" and fun originals like "Walkin' Back." There's also the odd inclusion of "There's a Kind of Hush," a pop song that comes out sounding like an old ...
| | Ike & Tina Turner Nutbush City Limits/Feel Good CD (2006) Bonus Tracks
Songs/Hey Love album
$18.09 Raven's 2006 two-fer Nutbush City Limits/Feel Good combines two of Ike & Tina Turner's last albums together and adds five bonus tracks, three of which were taken from other Ike & Tina albums from the early '70s, one taken from a Tina solo record, and one disco mix of "Nutbush City Limits." The album that arrives first on this two-fer was actually the last of these two to be released: Nutbush City Limits appeared in 1973, a year after Feel Good, but its title track ...

Songs/Hey Love CD music
$10.09 Many of the legends of acoustic guitar in the 20th century have already passed on -- John Fahey, Robbie Basho, Ali Farka Toure. Due partially to his spare recording career, Peter Walker's own reputation has not always been as well known as those of said giants, but his own influence has been considerable. ...

| | Testify!: The Gospel Box CDs (1999) Box Set
Songs/Hey Love songs
$43.39 It seems like it would be easy to compile a definitive gospel box set, much like Rhino's definitive Doo Wop Box. After all, much classic gospel was never widely distributed and has been out of print for years, and many listeners would like one sweeping set that captures the best of the music. Still, the three-disc set Testify!: The Gospel Box suffers from two perennial Rhino curses: a desire to tell a full chronology and a yen for novelty. First, Testify runs from the beginning of the '40s to the end of the '90s. This is an enormous amount of time to consolidate into one set, especially when most casual fans of gospel (i.e., rock fans) have, at best, a passing interest in gospel recorded after the early '70s, which accounts for the last two discs of the set. To be sure, there's some great music on the first disc (covering recorded gospel's peak years), but it's marred by novelty tunes -- "Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition," "Stalin Wasn't Stallin'" -- that are of interest to collectors, but hardly provide the basic introduction that the set intends to provide. Disc two is devoted to music recorded in the '70s and early '80s; disc three picks up where that left off, taking listeners all the way to the end of the century. Some listeners may even want a set that runs through the history of recorded gospel, but Testify! isn't satisfying listening; it's merely a textbook, tracing the evolution of gospel. Instructive ...
