| | Conrad Herwig Heart Of Darkness CD (1998) (Import) Netherlands
From This Moment songs
$18.69 On trombonist Conrad Herwig's Criss Cross debut, he has put together a group consisting of tenor saxophonist Walt Weiskopf, vibraphonist Stefon Harris, pianist Bill Charlap, bassist Peter Washington, and drummer Billy Drummond to perform seven Herwig originals and one standard, "The Lamp Is Low." Herwig, a veteran of the bands of Toshiko Akiyoshi, Eddie Palmieri, and Joe Henderson, among others, is known for his impressive technique and imagination, which he displays through this recording, and proves himself a writer of challenging compositions. Also, the addition of Harris' ...
| | University Of Cincinnati College-Concervatory Of Music Jazz Ensemble Lady Bird CD (1998)
From This Moment album
$13.39 This is an easy album to overlook because it features a college band with the anonymous name of the CCM Jazz Ensemble (CCM stands for University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music). However, the writing (mostly by alumni) is challenging and the many solos by the students are surprisingly mature and viable. The repertoire is quite inspired, featuring such songs as "Donna Lee" (this version has a lot of key changes), "Nardis," "In Your Own Sweet Way," and a riotous version of Charles Mingus' "Moanin'." This set, which also includes a couple small-group numbers, is far superior to most college band recordings and should be picked up by fans of modern big bands. ~ Scott ...

$9.29 **Like a song on this album but don't want to buy the whole CD? Search for "I Hate This Place" on Apple's iTunes Music Store or other Internet music services to download individual tracks!"""Right out of the chute the male vocal cuts right into a slightly sarcastic verse about the pop industry. The song is produced with all the latest bling, bling and in this case its perfect. Some remarkable keyboard work fills out some of the segue sections with wonderful depth. With great harmonies and beats, this tune delivers all it was supposed to and more. There are real musicians hiding behind this pop spoof wonderland. This group parodies pop better than pop itself and if you look into its corners their true musicality can't help but leak out. Great idea done superbly!"- Jeff Tassin, Emmy Award winning songwriter and performer reviewing "Alchemy (Shit to Gold)" on Garageband.comYou may not like this music. But one thing is for certain: you won't be able to get the infectious sound of I Hate This Place out of your head. The brainchild of Sean Nerney (Producer, The Old Kings, Some May Not Be), I Hate This Place elegantly brings together every electro-bubblegum-synthpop nightmare ...
