Though originally released back in 1983, A DECADE OF HITS has yet to be topped as the best single-disc compilation of Charlie Daniels Band hits. From their hilarious early days exploring the longhair-redneck dichotomy--"Uneasy Rider" and "Long Haired Country Boy" are comic story songs as good as anything else in the genre--to the crossover pop success of songs like the inescapable "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" and "The South's Gonna Do it Again," this collection hits all the high points.
Perhaps more importantly, it collects the last couple of truly essential Charlie Daniels Band hits, the atypically serious veteran's lament "Still in Saigon" and "Stroker's Theme," the goofy theme to the Burt Reynolds film STROKER ACE. This may be the only Charlie Daniels Band record you need.
Charlie Daniels Band includes: Charlie Daniels, Joel "Taz" DiGregorio, Fred Edwards, Tom Crain, Charlie Hayward.
Recorded at Woodland Studios & Mercury Custom Studios, Nashville, Tennessee; Capricorn Studios, Macon, Georgia. Includes liner notes by Charlie Daniels.
Compilation producer: Al Quaglieri.
Producers: Charlie Daniels, John Boylan, Paul Hornsby.

| | Nelly Da Derrty Versions: The Reinvention CD (2003)
A Decade of Hits
$12.59 While remix albums of all shades were in vogue during 2003, Nelly truly seems to be having fun on DA DERRTY VERSIONS, his addition to the genre. This release is unique in that the remixes are generally by the original producer. Also, the title is a bit of a misnomer, as it implies more stripped-down or crunked-out versions, which are not really what this record is about. However, ...

| | Steve Goodman Hot Spot CD (1980)
A Decade of Hits
$11.49 Hot Spot, Steve Goodman's seventh album overall, was also his fifth LP on what presumably was a five-record deal with Asylum Records. The first two albums on that deal had grazed the bottom of the charts and the next two had missed the charts entirely; Hot Spot may have constituted Goodman's last shot with a big label. He used that shot to try for a pop hit. The sound of the disc was very much in keeping with the style of pop/rock purveyed in Los Angeles recording studios in the late '70s and early '80s, an ...

This German compilation is unusual among the dozens (if not hundreds) of Johnny Cash collections in that it includes tracks from the Man in Black's entire career. Selections from his '50s rockabilly Sun recordings, his live prison shows, the less well-received '70s recordings, and (at the end) his collaboration with U2 ("The Wanderer") are all featured, offering a more complete overview of his entire career. Unfortunately, given the nature of Cash's entire recorded history, some sections of the disc are ...

| | Michael Blumenstock Universe Could Be Expanding CD (2006)
A Decade of Hits
$7.99 What a fascinating and odd universe we live in, aye? That was the surreal concept behind this album, appropriately titled “The Universe Could Be Expanding.” It’s another eclectic burrito of musical styles and experimentation from Michael Blumenstock.Michael starts off with “Watch the Video,” which delves into the media frenzy and political maneuvering so prevalent in our times, or was it always there, but we did not have 20,000 TV channels and four billion websites to fry our neural pathways. To turn back the clock, check out “Ska Sun Comes Down.” This retro song harks back to the Delta Blues days of yore, and then some. The title track ...
