When originally released in 1981, the ten-track Great Gonzos!: The Best of Ted Nugent was an expertly selected collection of Ted Nugent's best-known material. But with the advent of the CD, the length of albums could be stretched out, and such is the case with the 1999 reissue of Great Gonzos! All of the previous ten tracks are remastered and featured in all of their ferocious glory, as well as three extra tracks not included on the original: the exceptional instrumental from 1977, "Home Bound," plus the explosive rockers "Yank Me, Crank Me" and "Give Me Just a Little." While the Nuge is known primarily for his shorter compositions that are still classic rock radio favorites ("Cat Scratch Fever," "Just What the Doctor Ordered," "Free-for-All," "Dog Eat Dog"), his longer tracks are just as gripping ("Stranglehold," "Wango Tango," "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang"). The selections are taken mostly from Nugent's first three albums (his best work), but Great Gonzos! still neglects several standouts, such as "Hey Baby," "Live It Up," and "Out of Control." Still, Great Gonzos!: The Best of Ted Nugent remains an essential purchase for admirers of fine '70s-era hard rock. ~ Greg Prato Terrible Ted Nugent has been the subject of several best-of compilations over the years, and by far, 1981's GREAT GONZOS: BEST OF TED NUGENT is the best single-disc collection you can find. The 1999 reissue expanded the disc to 13 tracks, boasting nothing but the crFme de la crFme of the Nuge. When you're in the mood for mega-decibel, muscular hard rock, GREAT GONZOS is the ultimate "crank-it-up-to-10" showcase. Ted's best-known track, "Cat Scratch Fever," kicks off the set, and is followed up by such heavy hitters as "Just What the Doctor Ordered," "Free-for-All," "Stranglehold," "Wango Tango," "Dog Eat Dog," "Homebound," and "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang," among others. Also included as a bonus is a new studio recording, "Give Me Just a Little," which Ted co-wrote with ex-Journey guitarist Neal Schon and his ex- Damn Yankees bandmates Jack Blades and Tommy Shaw.

An arrogant, egocentric, boring imbecile. And to top it off a known bigot. Not too smart in my book. When you're in the public eye, no matter what your feelings are towards minorities, it's best to keep your pie hole shut. That's not a way to attract new fans let me tell you. He was on some radio talk show I believe it was out in Colorado when he made racist remarks about blacks and asians. My hometown banned him from playing and I applaud them for that. I was surprised he didn't attack hispanics. What a jerk! He just showed how ignorant he really is. If anyone out there had any brains in their skulls left, boycott this idiots CD's. He is rich enough and it's just stupid people who buy this demeaning if you want to call it music. I am so glad I never have contributed to this morons success. Ted and Kid Rock ought to get married and move into a hospital. Get my point? Ted should change his name to Richard Cranium. Another point I'm making here. I rest my case. Great Although Ted Nugent at times can be controversial. But then so are most of the rap artist and they rule the charts now adays. It is all about the music and not an artists life outside his trade. Otherwise I would never listen to anything. And this compilation showcases ted Nugent at the top of his game. Ignore The Bad Review- This One Is GREAT Don't listen to whoever wrote the insulting review about this compilation, because it's great. The music here combines the influences of Led Zeppelin, Humble Pie, Free, Grand Funk, Cream, Mountain, Chuck Berry, the Allman Brothers Band, Mitch Ryder, the Spencer Davis Group, and the Rolling Stones into a hot juggernaut that rolls over anyone playing metal today. This compilation is a testament to the creative benefits of sobriety. Submitted by rocker_usa2002 (Suffern NY USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
