At Folsom Prison album Product Description
At Folsom Prison album by Johnny Cash was released Oct 19, 1999 on the Columbia/Legacy label. Want to hear part of the reason why Johnny Cash is an icon, a singer respected and influential in country, folk, and rock & roll? THIS is it! In 1968--one of the most tumultuous years in American history since the Depression years--Cash recorded an album live in front of a (literally) captive (but wildly appreciative) audience, in Folsom Prison. At Folsom Prison songs With two guitars, bass, drums, and a small vocal group (including Cash's wife June Carter Cash and the Statler Brothers), Cash sings his hits and lesser-known songs ("Send a Picture of Mother") and some haunting country standards ("Dark as a Dungeon"), as well as songs about REAL outlaws ("Cocaine Blues") to a rapt audience that hangs on every word. At Folsom Prison album That boom-chicka-boom sound is sharp as the first mean wind of winter, and Cash is in fine fettle (though his voice cracks from time to time). With its unique setting, this is as harrowing an album as any ever recorded. At Folsom Prison CD music contains a single disc with 19 songs. ...See Full Description

Worthwhile I am very satisfied with the CD ordered. My husband had an old album, but with times changing CD's are much more compatible with the stereo systems. By Trish (New Bern, NC, USA)
Best Live CD I've Ever Heard At Folsom Prison songs Incredible. My mom insisted I get this CD telling me that it broke recods when it was released and no other country artist had broken out of their realm with such an incredible album. I was like, "Yeah I'll pick it up. Johnny is cool, but not really a slow country fan." Boy was I wrong. Johnny is not country. He's a raw, real, bad ass. He is an incredible song writer and this CD is so real you feel like you are in Folsom with these guys. At the end when the warden tries to kiss Johnny's butt You can actually feel him feeling like the moron he is as Johnny hardley says a word. You feel the warden's total humiliation. Then when the concert ends and you hear the prisoners being shuffled back to their cell blocks you actually feel as though you were there. I see why this album broke album sales and musical barriers when it was released. By Cat (Atlanta, Ga.)
Performance Par Excellence At Folsom Prison album This is Johnny at his finest. A man who can sing, play, and perform with the best of them. His decision to do this album live at a prison displays his character as a rebel and a down-home type of guy, bringing his roots to even the lowly and down-trodden. His style of singing and playing may have even saved a few foolhardy souls that day. By Sam (Waldorf, MD, USA)
Cash At His Best At Folsom Prison CD music What a remarkable recording. Besides an incredible performance by Cash that includes his conversations with his audience, you also get the full ambience of prison with anouncements calling prisoners out to meet visitors and whatever. You get a wildman stirring the pot of a potentially dangerous stew. But Cash understood his audience all too well. He gave them a compadre that understood their pain and earned their respect. These are passionate and compassionate performances. Not just great country music, but great music. By jmayn (Los Angeles, CA, USA)
My favorite by far! Sounds great. Very relaxed, you can tell he really enjoyed playing this concert. June Carter accompanies and is terrific as well! By scarey11 (new rochelle, ny)
