Richard D. James, who records under the moniker Aphex Twin (among others), is an extremely talented digital composer. So much so that few of his numerous album releases are able to clearly showcase his entire compositional arsenal. Instead, each album focuses on a single musical trait, whether it be dance-floor-oriented pieces, electro-pop, the ambient pulse or the endless sonic pranksterisms (high-frequency screeches and such) that James likes to indulge in. COME TO DADDY, a generous 8-song EP, is the first to roll out his entire bag of tricks for complete consideration.
James's ambient melodies with the new wave touch are the melodic cornerstone of the title track, while the various mixes of the song pour out his absurdist tendencies--the "Little Lord Faultleroy" mix, for instance, degenerates the rhythm into what sounds like a highly distorted game of Pong over the gentle refrain. And the Eno-esque melody of "Flim" has at once a panoramic scope and a distinguished Mo' Wax-ian lounge feel. Featuring a wide assortment of such odds and ends, COME TO DADDY presents a talented artist stretching out in his musical space, still feeling his way on the common ground while displaying his natural instincts.

Spin (1/98, p.116) - 7 (out of 10) - "...lately the shaman of shambling has become something of an entertainer: His compositions have grown warmer and hookier; he's begun singing occasionally....DADDY has enough mirthful charm to make any papa proud." Alternative Press (5/00, p.120) - Included in AP's "10 Essential Dance Albums That Rock" - "...Richard James' most rocking....his breakthrough to the MTV crowd..." Option (3-4/98, p.76) - "...With the panache of a circus sideshow barker, Richard James continues to push the boundaries of digitalia, fashioning easily one of the most interesting and unique catalogs in the canon..." a classic this album put aphex twin on the map, his weirdness was made public by not just the come to daddy video, but this album is also a landmark of what electronic music should be. Submitted by drencrome (nyc, ny) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
that last guy has no clue this is an electronic album full great music and sick, sick, sick beats. crazy, man, crazy, Submitted by brettg_licious (Glendale, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
impossible to put a rating on so il leave it at 3 this album must be the work of either a completely insane man, or a man that just wants to use his talent to break the bounds of music as we know it.
this album is easily one of the strangest i have ever come across with especially the title track "come to daddy" being a disturbing explosion of anger (the lyrics are simply screamed: "i want your soul, i will eat your soul, come to daddy, come to daddy etc etc...") weird!!. i am, for a first time i think, very unsure about whether i like this or not. it is certainly an album for someone who likes to listen to groundbreaking, disturbing, very very odd music, but for you non-adventurous people out there, you will almost definitely hate it. im still not sure. could be 1 star, could be 5, thats why i have gone for 3, just as an average - certainly not because this album is average (it is anything but). Come To Daddy album
$9.79 FAT OF THE LAND was nominated for a 1998 Grammy for Best Rock Album.
Among the most anticipated releases of 1997, The Prodigy's third full-length album is a bulldozing rock-techno hybrid. But while the guitar/samples/hyper-beats mosaic that made "Firestarter" an MTV breakout are found in every nook and cranny of this album, the overall building blocks are far more diverse, making it a tangible melting pot of pre-millennium pop styles.
There's a definite hip-hop element here. "Diesel Power," which features quality mic control by Kool Keith (of Ultramagnetic MCs and Dr. Octagon fame), is new-style hip-hop sculpture, applying techno and acid-house textures to apocalyptic ends. Both "Funky Shit" and "Smack My Bitch Up" are throbbing dance-floor ejaculations wrapped around, respectively, Beastie Boys and De La Soul refrains. Kula Shaker's Crispin ...
| | Aphex Twin Drukqs CDs (2001)
Come To Daddy CD music
$11.25 It's tempting to imagine Richard James holed up in his basement for years on end, concocting foaming aural experiments to try out on unsuspecting listeners, and he certainly does little to dispel that image here. His past musical output has varied from the gentle but weird, to the baffling, to the ghastly, and with DRUKQS he manages to combine all the aforementioned in a compelling yet unsettling mix that is never less than fascinating. The tracks are listed on the booklet, but not necessarily in the same order they appear on the album, and moreover James ...
| | Aphex Twin I Care Because You Do CD (1995)
Come To Daddy music CDs
$9.09 Also known by his real name, Richard D. James, Aphex Twin is one of most intelligent and innovative artists in the world of electronica. His seemingly limitless imagination has encompassed hardcore techno, drum 'n bass, atmospheric beat-based trance music, and highly abstract compositions of the most alien and delicate nature.
While James' previous album-length releases (SELECTED AMBIENT WORKS 85-92 and VOLUME II) tend towards the spacious and the meditative, ...
| | Aphex Twin Richard D. James Album CD (1996)
Come To Daddy songs
$8.59 In a career filled with re-invention, Aphex Twin comes full circle, with an album named after his real-life identity, RICHARD D. JAMES. James performs his usual boundary-jumping, genre-crashing magic, constantly changing gears and never standing still. Melodies are drawn from an infinite variety of sonic sources and juxtaposed with harsh, stuttering breakbeats and placid keyboards in ever-changing permutations.
James manages to coax a wide ...

$10.45 With Drive Like Jehu's Yank Crime as their clearest reference point, Sex Positions proves that hardcore music can continue to transcend the confines of scenes and be -- gulp -- relevant. Like the Blood Brothers, Sex Positions stretches the limitations of the genre by constantly experimenting and redefining what it means to be hardcore. Touches like the harmonica on "Interlude" set ...
| | Chron Gen Chronic Generation CD (1982) Import
Come To Daddy album
$29.05 Japanese cult punkers Chron Gen's first studio album, CHRONIC GENERATION features "Puppets Of War" and "Jet Boy Jet Girl." This repackaged 1982 album contains detailed liner notes and original artwork.
A bonus-stacked reissue of the Hertfordshire punks' 1982 debut album, itself one of the most brilliantly brittle concoctions in the entire Oi! canon. Chron Gen had already been around for two years by the time they cut the LP, a legacy that is encapsulated among the dozen-bonus tracks here. Only a smattering of live cuts are omitted from the roundup (including, somewhat disappointingly, "Abortions" and "Ripper"), but the compilation-only "Clouded Eyes" is here, together with the late 1982 Outlaw EP. The album is a little clumsy in places -- songs like "You Make Me Spew" and even "Chronic Generation" itself have not aged well. But, then again, were they meant to? More than any other of punk's offspring, Oi! was music-for-the-moment, blind rage kicking out at the things that enraged it at the time. There was no thought for history, no attempt to stash something away for the future -- hell, most bands weren't even sure there would be a future, let alone one that would still be listening to 20-year-old punk ...
| | Marshall Tucker Band Carolina Christmas CD (2005)
Come To Daddy CD music
$10.89 Audio Mixers: Doug Gray; Chris Hicks; Buddy Strong; Keith Glenn.
Liner Note Author: Barry Alfonso.
Recording information: Southeastern Studios, Easley, SC.
Arranger: Doug Gray.
So it's come to this: a Marshall Tucker Christmas album. The first urge is to dismiss this as another attempt to cash in on the holiday record market, but right from the onset of the opener, "White Christmas," it becomes evident that this is an album a long time in the making, reassembling bandmembers from incarnations spanning over three decades. The performances are inspired but relaxed, much like their earliest releases, and there are moments when their signature hard rock sound can easily wipe away the notions that ...
