New Christmas Classics Series Collection video
$6.15 For various legal reasons, no Ambrosia recordings were released on compact disc in America until 1997's Anthology, and while it's an imperfect collection, it does offer a reasonably thorough overview of the group's career. It only briefly touches on their early art rock records, choosing to concentrate instead on their early-'80s soft rock hits like "Biggest Part of Me," "You're the Only Woman," and "How Much I Feel." As a result, dedicated prog rock fans will find this collection inadequate, but for most casual listeners, it will contain everything they need and then some, since the disc is padded with three new songs that are pleasant. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

| | Lindsey Buckingham Go Insane CD (1984)

| | Britney Spears Britney CD (2001)
New Christmas Classics Series Collection DVD
$8.99 BRITNEY was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Pop Vocal Album. "Overprotected" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
Well, the question is no longer whether she's a little girl or a woman--Britney Spears has obviously been the latter for some time. The question now is how long she'll be able to pretend at keeping us guessing, and how long we'll pretend not to know the answer. With BRITNEY she continues the dance of corrupted youth and innocence to the delight of both her female fans and dirty old and young men everywhere.
While it's by no means the best song on the album, the ballad "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman" typifies her commercial appeal (interestingly, though she writes several songs here, this one was written for her). The songs that ring truest here are those penned by Spears herself, such as the Chic-influenced "Anticipating" and the R&B flavored "Lonely," which play down the innocent girl/tart predicament in favor of presumably more realistic scenarios such as checking out her lipstick in the former and relationship dilemmas in the latter. Elsewhere she convincingly reduces Joan Jett's "I Love Rock 'N' Roll" to its bubblegum essentials, while her interpretation of main squeeze Justin ...
| | Sheryl Crow C'Mon C'Mon CD (2002)
New Christmas Classics Series Collection movie DVD
$12.45 "Steve McQueen" won the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.
C'MON C'MON was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Rock Album and Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical)."Soak Up The Sun" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. "It's So Easy" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals.
So you think you know Sheryl Crow, eh? Well, the closest thing to what one might consider a "trademark" Crow tune on C'MON, C'MON is probably "Soak up the Sunshine," whose ironic good-timey feel and slide guitar recall TUESDAY NIGHT MUSIC CLUB. "You're An Original" is a ' 70s-style bluesy hard-rocker whose stylistic bent is further underlined by the guest vocal appearance of Lenny Kravitz. The low-key "Safe and Sound" combines Beatlesque chord progressions with contemporary R&B loops for an interesting meld of sounds. The plangent guitars of the title track are the most obvious example of Crow's debt to early-'70s rock, with passages that seem to have EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY stamped all over them. The cheesecake inner-booklet photos and incongruous presence of Gwyneth Paltrow on "It's Only Love"
