(1 Customer Review)
Alison Kraus is one of the most notable figures on the bluegrass and acoustic music scenes. She's managed to bring her folk-influenced style of bluegrass to a wider (read: outside of bluegrass) audience without commercializing or compromising her music (or herself) one bit. Kraus has adapted songs from such unlikely sources as The Beatles and Bad Company to her style. TOO LATE is from earlier in her career (1987), and concentrates on the bluegrass and country scene for the songs.
Krauss' voice and fiddle (she won the Illinois State Fiddle Championship when she was 12 years old!) is center-stage. Her voice balances the qualities of innocence, soulfulness and worldly strength. The playing (by such heavy-hitters as Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush and banjo master Tony Trischka) is subdued and superb. A great album for fans of Kraus and traditional bluegrass--newcomers should check out the wonderful collection NOW THAT I"VE FOUND YOU or the beautiful SO LONG, SO WRONG.
Recorded at Cowboy Arms Hotel and Recording Spa, Nashville, Tennessee. Includes liner notes by Tony Trischka.
Personnel: Alison Krauss (vocals, fiddle); Russ Barenberg, Lonnie Meeker (guitar); Sam Bush (mandolin); Jerry Douglas (dobro); Tony Trischka, John Schmaltz (banjo); Roy Huskey (bass); Dave Denman, John Cowan (background vocals).

Too Late To Cry album
$14.59 The shining star of America's so-called "new wave" of country, Alison Krauss spearheaded the bluegrass and traditional country revival in the late 1980s and early '90s. TWO HIGHWAYS is Krauss's second album, and though she was still a teenager when she recorded it, this record is one of her best. Of course, this isn't too surprising, since Krauss is one of those rare country artists whose discography is consistently excellent.
On TWO HIGHWAYS, we hear Krauss in the company of Union Station, though most of the members of the band departed later. The exception to this is dobro player Jerry Douglas, who has been a longtime unofficial ...

| | Alison Krauss I Know Who Holds Tomorrow CD (1994)
Too Late To Cry songs
$13.95 Alison Krauss & The Cox Family: Alison Krauss (vocals, fiddle, viola), Suzanne Cox, Evelyn Cox, Lynn Cox, Willard Cox, Sidney Cox (vocals).
I KNOW WHO HOLDS TOMORROW won the 1995 Grammy Award for Best Southerm Gospel, Country Gospel Or Bluegrass Gospel Album.
It's a fact. Alison Krauss has the sweetest voice this side of heaven. Krauss' rapturous lead vocals and angelic harmonies, combined with the simplicity of the blugrass/gospel Cox family, are breathtakingly plain and sweet. With voices melding as one, Alison becomes an easy fit--almost familial--with the Cox clan. Suzanne Cox's warbly, fluid soprano is another cornerstone of this collection of traditional and contemporary hymns, and Willard Cox adds the laconic vocals that are so important to the genre. As usual, Alison's backing band, Union Station, is tasteful and first-rate. Highlights include a rocking version of Paul Simon's "Loves Me Like A Rock" and a spirited, old-timey version of Loretta Lynn's "Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven."
I KNOW WHO HOLDS TOMORROW transcends genre; displaying dashes of soul and jazz, it becomes an uplifting piece of art. Yet it is also an understated recording, acoustic yet powerful. It was a well-deserved ...

Twenty-five-year-old Alison Krauss has singlehandedly revived popular interest in bluegrass, and SO LONG SO WRONG finds her own popularity at a peak: It follows up her 1995 collection NOW THAT I'VE FOUND YOU, which sold an astonishing 2 million copies. SO LONG SO WRONG sticks to the combination of contemporary bluegrass ballads and traditional songs that has proved so successful for Krauss. The slower songs provide ample room for her to ...
