This is the first CD by zydeco accordionist Geno Delafose. The name of the record, French Rockin' Boogie, is also the name of his backup group, a fine array of musicians including several family members. For as is often true in Louisiana, playing music is a family affair. Such is the case for Geno Delafose, who got his start at the age of eight in his father's band. When the great John Delafose retired, his son took over the band. By then, the younger Delafose was adept at making music on both the button and piano accordions. The sound of this musical artist is unique. In some ways, it is quite traditional Creole music, but it is pepped up with influences from the R&B and country-rock traditions. It is, above all, dance music. And Geno Delafose, with his country cowboy persona, has them smiling and dancing wherever he goes. The recording gives the listener a good sampling of the range of this master accordionist's capabilities. The title cut takes off fast to let you know the man can rock. But, as with the horses that Delafose raises, there are many changes of pace. Stirring waltzes such as "Wedding Day Waltz" are interspersed with ballads and traditional jures. Standout tunes include "Ris et la Gres" (Rice and Gravy) and "One Lie (Leads to Another)." There's nothing like a good two-step to get the blood pumping, and there are plenty of those dance favorites on the record. As Delafose admonishes on the last track, "Watch Your Step." ~ Rose of Sharon Witmer

Personnel includes: Geno Delafose (vocals, accordion, piano); Joe Cabral, Derek Huston (tenor saxophone); Tony Delafose (bass); Jermaine Jack (drums); The White Trash Horns, Shelton Broussard.

Sing Out! (11-12/94-1/95, pp.155-156) - "The title says it all. Slap this disk in the player and get ready to rock....Delafose squeezes (piano and button accordion) and sings (in English and French) with the best of them..."

French Rockin' Boogie CD music
CD $10.05  3 stars Audio Samples
One of the earliest Bernard Allison albums, recorded in 1992 and reissued in late 2001 (unfortunately complete with its original tacky cover art), is a middling effort from a talented bluesman who hadn't found his niche. Recorded live in the studio with his dad Luther's band in Paris, where they were living at the time, Bernard compensates for his lack of direction by playing very loud and very fast. While the band of pros keeps the music simmering, Allison's gruff voice and aggressive approach make the songs often seem like bluesy Southern rock instead of the electrified Chicago blues that his dad epitomized. Certainly the younger Allison was grieving the then-recent death of Stevie Ray Vaughan, as tunes like "Missing Stevie," the title track (which edges dangerously close to Deep Purple territory), and the closing ten-minute "Voodoo Chile Medley" (which includes excerpts from Lonnie Mack's "Wham" and Vaughan's ...
Pint Store Blues
Tim "Too Slim" Langford Pint Store Blues CD  (2000)

French Rockin' Boogie music CDs
CD $9.59
Tim Too Slim Langford is the founder, guitarist, singer, songwriter of Too Slim and the Taildraggers. Although generally lumped into the blues-rock arena, Tim "Too Slim" Langford and his band fall into whatever category a combination of Tom Petty, Creedence and ZZ Top would create. Perhaps swampy Americana is closer to the trio's sound, especially on this terrific album. Slim's been at it for quite a while; nearly two decades, yielding a dozen or so releases when this disc appeared in 2007. But that hard work has paid off, big time. Langford writes melodies and especially lyrics that show him to be an under the radar talent who has gone unnoticed for too long. Vocally his gruff voice is somewhat similar to Top's Billy Gibbons and this album is a good example of what that Texas band might have sounded like if they hadn't cheesed out with synths and dance ...
Lost Innocence Vast Ego
Mary Jane Lost Innocence Vast Ego CD  (2005) (Import)

No doubt this is the most hard and powerfull latvian rock band!mary jane was formed in 1995 in Riga's old town. Just like the old town itself, the band has slowly but surely progressed. Many people have different interpretations when they first hear the band name mary jane. Some conjure up images of a band totally stoned playing mellow music. Others may just think that Mary was one of the band member's first love. When asking some of the band members the reason, they themselves are not quite sure and respond with different answers - "We are individuals, with different qualities and experiences, but on the same path", or "sounded good at the time". Who knows. But one thing that is known, is that when you get to know the band and their music, you realise that the band loves their music, and that it is like a drug to them. The group plays hard rock that can even turn unaware listeners into addicts.About the album songs:casablancathis song was meant for a special occasion - an acoustic concert in a club called casablanca. that's where its name originated from. funny thing is we should have played this gig together with kuba, so we wrote it as a joke to "compete" with kuba's instrumental music. The concert never happened, but we are thankful to our friends from kuba for the inspiration, and the club for this track's name...through the doorsone of our first radio singles. while playing it live, ernests and janis always have the feeling that people are getting annoyed by the end of the song. aren't you people?;) let me outback in 2000-2001 this was the greatest song to play in concerts. the secret of its popularity is probably in the non-articulated lyrics. instead of the classic "hop-hop" or "la la la", we used our new formula "hoooohoooo", which turned out to be catchy as hell. Even the ones who can't sing seem to sing "hooooohooooo" better than us."I DIDN'T GET YOU RIGHT!"salvationthis is where our story began. the first radio single... if you still remember this story - you have to read the section "special thanks to special fans" - it's meant for you. cheerz!:) "JUST LIKE YOUR LATVIAN EYES"oldas ernests once announced - this is a song for all kinds of people - and that's it! you can't deny his logic - we all are different but we all are getting older. Though he is singing mostly about getting bald... and it doesn't bother you that much, does it ladies? "SENSE IS MY JOB"girlthis is a song about a classic topic (or one can say - classic ...
