One of Raffi's best selling recordings, SINGABLE SONGS FOR THE VERY YOUNG features 19 short, catchy tunes sung by one of world's best-known singers of children's songs. This recording, first released in the 1970's, has a timeless quality. It features some familiar tunes, "Baa Baa Black Sheep" and "My Dreydel," as well as some familiar melodies that have been given a new twist, such as the swinging "Old MacDonald Had a Band."
SINGABLE SONGS FOR THE VERY YOUNG includes instructive songs such as "Brush Your Teeth" and "Going to the Zoo," as well as a number of pop compositions, like "Down By the Bay" and "Aikendrum," that parents can enjoy too. However, what sets SINGABLE SONGS FOR THE VERY YOUNG apart from many children's recordings is Raffi's voice. He possesses a laid-back, mellow croon, one with roots in the Canadian folk tradition of singers such as Gordon Lightfoot. Parents raised on Paul Simon, James Taylor, and other lighter fare will find themselves entertained right along with their children.
Recorded at MSR Studios, Hamilton, Ontario in September 1976.
Personnel includes: Raffi (vocals, acoustic guitar); Ken Whiteley (various instruments, background vocals); Dan Lanois (mandolin, drums); Garnet Rogers (fiddle, flute); Chris Whiteley (harmonica, trumpet).

Great kids CD I bought this CD for a young girl (a bit over 1) that I babysit for and she started humming along to it the first day she heard it. Raffi is funny and creative, and really captures the attention of young children...I recommend it especially to parents going on long car trips! Singable Songs is Great! My girls, ages 6 & 2, absolutely LOVE this CD. It is great for long car rides and we even found ourselves joining in the fun. The songs really are easy to sing along, even for our 2yo. This is our first Raffi CD to buy, and I will definitely be looking for more.

Awesome!! My children listened to this music over and over and over when they were younger. The cassette tape actually wore out after many years of playing. I've searched for years to find a replacement & finally did this year. Except now this is for my grandchildren. My adult daughter wanted one for herself, as she has no children, but loved it so much as a child. Awesome music and well worth the money Submitted by ditchdctr (Walstonburg, NC) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

Singable Songs For The Very Young album
$12.05 Sometimes known as the Bruce Springsteen for the younger set, Egyptian-born, Canadian-based singer-songwriter Raffi teamed up with veteran producer Daniel Lanois for 1998's MORE SINGABLE SONGS. While Raffi lists Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell as his biggest influences, recent years have seen him go global.
On MORE SINGABLE SONGS he incorporates folk, reggae, ragtime, gospel, jazz, country and even calypso into his oeuvre. And while his musical influences--and his popularity--now reach throughout the world, there is nothing the least bit stuffy about him. Just check out his sweet vocal delivery on "Six Little Ducks," ...

Singable Songs For The Very Young music CDs
$11.79 Canadian children's performer Raffi brings a gentle, tuneful, and--most importantly--relaxed air to his songs. BABY BELUGA features four Raffi-penned originals, including the terrific title track, which begins with real whale sounds taken from underwater recordings. "Baby Beluga" is one of Raffi's best-known tunes and serves as the centerpiece of his 1984 video, A YOUNG CHILDREN'S ...

Singable Songs For The Very Young album
$12.25 Children's music superstar Raffi maintains his stellar standards on this charming 16-song album. Don't be fooled by the title, which is something of a misnomer: this isn't all play music. In fact, it covers a range of moods and subjects, not to mention genres.
The bearded Pied Piper from Canada weaves together a selection of familiar covers and imaginative originals. There's a Celtic folk version of the Beatles' "Yellow Submarine," a delicate piano treatment of "Eensy Weensy Spider" (with an additional, Raffi-penned verse), and, in an interesting choice, an airy rendition of "What a Wonderful World." Among the original numbers, "Raining Like Magic" is sea-breeze calypso, "If You're Happy and You Know It" skips along on Chico Marx-style piano, and "It Takes a Village" is bright reggae with an important message. Reaching farther around the globe, "Tsetang Gangla (On the Playground)" is an adaptation of a traditional Tibetan children's song and the dreamy "May There Always Be Sunshine" alternates between English and Russian. Of special note are "Jane Jane," a bouncy tribute to Dr. Jane Goodall, who studied the chimps of Tanzania for 40 years, and the swingy title track with its nod to legendary jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt. Instructive, tender, joyful, and thoughtful, this is vintage Raffi. Let's Play! comes with lyrics for all ...
| | Willie Nelson Countryman CD (2005) Digipak
Singable Songs For The Very Young CD music
$12.59 Upon further thought, though, Nelson's laid-back sensibility, subtle
rhythmic lilt, and stoner image make his reggae album, COUNTRYMAN, seem in retrospect like an inevitability. Instead of adding his distinctive jazzy drawl and ragged guitar to a batch of reggae classics, though, Willie mostly keeps it country amid the Kingston grooves, delivering many of his own songs, as well a couple by Johnny Cash and reggae giant Jimmy Cliff.
Produced by Don Was, these tracks mostly feature L.A. session musicians doing a credible approximation of early-'70s Cliff/Toots & the
Maytals-style roots reggae, while Willie remains unflappable atop the
rhythmic change-up of the arrangements. These sessions actually sat in the can for about eight years before finally seeing the light of day, but anyone who ever wondered what bleak, ruminative Nelson chestnuts
such as "Darkness on the Face of the Earth" and "I've Just Destroyed
the World" would sound like with the added emotional contrast of ...
