Causas Y Azares Vol. 1 & 2 album
$15.15 Originally released in 1978, Silvio Rodríguez's Mujeres is often regarded as his masterpiece, representing a great artist at his very best. Instrumentally spare and transparent, the record is sonically crystal clear and shining. Rodríguez's guitar is bright and shimmering, and his voice has a bell-like open tone that would never sound ...
| | Silvio Rodriguez Rabo De Nube CD (1995)
Causas Y Azares Vol. 1 & 2 CD music
$15.15 Cuban singer/songwriter Silvio Rodríguez established himself as one of the pioneers of the nueva trova in the early '70s alongside Pablo Milanés, Eduardo Ramos, Noel Nicola, and Sara González, fellow members of the state-sponsored Grupo de Experimentación Sonora. Dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Cuban revolution, 1979's Rabo de Nube shows continuity with Rodríguez's previous albums, its melodic folk-pop arrangements accompanying poignant, poetic lyrics sung in a fragile tenor. Simpler acoustic compositions like the title track (subsequently covered by the Pretenders on Viva el Amor) and the catchy "Fábula de los Tres Hermanos" are especially strong. However, only "Que Ya Viví, Que Te Vas" and "Con Diez Años de Menos" rise to the high standards set by earlier Rodríguez classics, such as "Playa Girón" and "Sueño con Serpientes" from his 1975 debut Días y Flores. Unfortunately, Rabo de Nube foregrounds the inconsistencies that have occasionally marred Rodríguez's work. It's not simply a case of the hit-and-miss nature of the tracks -- the misses being those numbers ...

Causas Y Azares Vol. 1 & 2 music CDs
$15.15 UNICORNIO is a 10-track digitally-remastered 1995 release by Latin artist Silvio Rodriguez, including "Por Quien Merece Amor" and "Cancion Urgente Para Nicaragua."
Silvio Rodriguez, often called the heart and mind of the Nueva Trova movement, has long been a leading social and political commentator for the Cuban people. Long before his 1981 release Unicornio, Rodriguez had been writing songs inspired by his country's Socialist Revolution in 1959. It was not until this release, however, that his artistry came to international notice. Nueva Trova (New Cuban Song) put the island on the map as ...

| | George Benson In Your Eyes CD (1983)
Causas Y Azares Vol. 1 & 2 music CDs
$11.19 IN YOUR EYES, produced by one-time Atlantic Records ace producer Arif Mardin, features the strong vocals that awarded Benson much success in the late '70's. Benson's takes on period hits such as "Lady Love Me (One More Time)," "In Your Eyes," "Feel Like Makin' Love," "Use Me," and "Love Will Come Again" are included in this mix of ten R&B love songs.
Jazz fans will have to wait out the album's vocals in order to get to the George Benson they love; he comes through with the guitar licks on the instrumental track "In Search of a Dream." While heavy on the synthesized rhythm tracks and pre-programmed back beats, IN YOUR EYES does manage to succeed as a romantic pop/instrumental album, reminiscent of some of Bob James' recordings from the same period.
Recorded at Atlantic Studios, New York, and Music Grinder Studios, Los Angeles, California.
Personnel: George Benson (vocals, guitar, background vocals); Kashif (vocals, keyboards, synthesizer, Synclavier, drums, background vocals); Diva Gray, Mark Stevens, Lani Groves, Lillo Thomas, B.J. Nelson, Babi Floyd, Zachary Sanders, Robin Clark, Chaka Khan (vocals, background vocals); Brenda White-King, Arif Mardin, Vicki Randle (vocals); Hamish Stuart (guitar, background vocals); David Spinozza, George Genson, Ira Siegel, Gus Falcon, Paul Jackson, Jr. (guitar); Robbie Buchanan (electric guitar, piano, electric piano, keyboards, synthesizer, programming); Amanuel Vardi (viola); Jonathan Abramowitz (cello); David Sanborn (saxophone, alto saxophone); Michael Brecker ...

| | Choose Your Own Adventure Songs From The Heart CD (2002)
Causas Y Azares Vol. 1 & 2 album
$13.95 Rock n' Roll, Fire, and Girlies. That pretty much sums up the Choose Your Own Adventure experience. CYOA began in the spring of 2001 and has become a ROCK AND ROLL MACHINE on a direct warpath headed for yo mamma. Their songs have been called "passionate...with interesting vocal style" but that's pussy shit. CYOA is about ROCK N' ROLL, that's right, chicks and fire...got that. They write whiny emo songs about girls, sticking with your bro's, and 80's movies (Like we didn't all want to be Michael J. Fox in "Back to the Future II" when he got to ride a hoverboard!) CYOA (Steve Penta and Jared ...

| | James Edward Evans Ocean Of Wisdom CD (2006)
Causas Y Azares Vol. 1 & 2 music CDs
$15.19 what other people are saying about "Ocean of Wisdom":"The Native American Indians believed that everything has a soul. Guitars at one time were living trees, right? It takes a musician to bring the "soul" out of an instrument. Too many guitarists nowadays dont think like that.... Seems like all they want to play is either drop D grunge or speed riffs with full blown distortion. And although they may play 150mph, they aren't speaking anything musically. (On "Ocean of Wisdom") I can hear the soulfulness ...the guitar is saying something....actually speaking. . ...Very tasty! ""I immediately liked the first song- the intro and guitar riffs are very cool...I stood there and read the booklet from cover to cover first- I could feel a positive glow from it...the guitar playing is... exceptional....has a definite jazz feeling to it....voice like Dave Mathews""...some really cool grooves going on...the guitar work is excellent""a likeness to 'Dead Can Dance' in the song "Oceans Of Wisdom...The music is a nice step ...
