Standard Screen; Soundtrack English A hood's murder triggers a bloody gangland drug war, and a smooth-talking New Orleans detective is assigned to find out who's behind it. A tangled web of evidence, half-truths, and family secrets begins to point to higher-ups in his own department, but he refuses to believe it -- that is, until he meets his match in an assistant district attorney from the north.
She's in town to investigate allegations of police misconduct and quickly senses what's going on. Repeatedly clashing with the detective, she urges him to face the truth and stand up to his responsibilities as an officer of the law. Sparks fly almost immediately between the two, and a romance follows soon thereafter. Once he has come around to her way of thinking, they join forces and solve the crime together. In this steamy, spicy mystery a prosecutor is sent to New Orleans to investigate police corruption. All the evidence points to a Cajun detective she falls in love with immediately, and though the trial forces him temporarily off the squad it doesn't stop him from investigating the case or from seeing her. Shot in New Orleans, Louisiana; color by DeLuxe.
Jim Garrison, one-time Kennedy assassination conspiracy theorist (see "JFK" directed by Oliver Stone, 1991), makes a cameo in the film as a judge.
The film inspired a TV series of the same name, premiering on the USA cable network August 11, 1996.
Soundtrack available on Antilles records and tapes.

Big Easy Movie Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) Over-acting but vastly entertaining This very entertaining, amusing film suffers a bit from overly-broad acting, but the fast pace, interesting settings, and outrageous situations compensate. Dennis Quaid in the full flower of youthful brashness is fun to watch (especially when he takes off his shirt and shows off some incredible abdominal muscles). This was, sadly, a rare Charles Ludlam appearance before that master of absurdist theater sickened an died from AIDS. Ludlam's protrayal of a New Orleans "good ole boy" lawyer is a must-see. Very Sexy I just love the way this movie was made . New Orleans is such a mistirious town & you wonder if things really are that way with Law Enforcement & the Mob !! I just loved the characters & how they interacted with each other !! Submitted by romigirl624 (Texas) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Charles Ludlam I have been searching and searching to find who played the lawyer Lamar Parmental. I wasn't sure which movie it was. . . .but he was PERFECT. Every performance with a southern genteel lawyer since has drawn from him. He should have gotten an oscar. Submitted by susan (seattle) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Dancing At The Blue Iguana DVD (2001)
Big Easy review
$7.09 This melancholy film explores the intersecting lives of five exotic dancers who work at a San Fernando Valley strip club, the Blue Iguana. None of them have it easy. Angel (Darryl Hannah) wishes she could take in a foster child or have a baby of her own - but her messy, dysfunctional existence makes this an impossible dream. Joe (Jennifer Tilly) is pregnant, but wants an abortion, and can barely keep her rage at the world contained. Jasmine (Sandra Oh) writes beautiful poetry on the side--but doesn't have the confidence to read her work aloud or take it seriously. Jesse (Charlotte Ayanna) looks for love but instead gets beaten by her boyfriend; and Stormy (Sheila Kelley) tries to forget the great love of her life: her brother.
Director Michael Radford won the Best Foreign Film Academy Award for his sensitive IL POSTINO in 1994. DANCING AT THE BLUE IGUANA was in part developed through improvisational workshops in which the actors helped to come up with their own characters and storylines for the film; this experimental preparatory work was then shaped into a screenplay by Mr. Radford. But the true focus of the film is on the dance sequences; each woman expresses her hopes and sorrows using her body to communicate her feelings.

$6.55 New York cop Frank Keller is on the trail of a serial killer who murders men answering personal ads in the classifieds. The ads, written in poetic couplets, are quite romantic, but those who meet their mysterious author end up dead in their own apartments with a 45rpm copy of the '50s single "Sea of Love" on their turntables. Keller, suspecting the murderer is a woman, places his own advertisement in the paper and sets up dinner dates (one every half-hour) with the respondents; he lifts their fingerprints from their wine glasses and matches them against those of the murderer, taken from the crime scene. But Keller's scheme fails when he falls in love with one of the suspects and refuses to check her prints. With each passing day their romance grows hotter... and the growing evidence keeps pointing more strongly to her guilt.

| | King David DVD (1985)
Big Easy movie DVD
$7.05 An adaptation of the legendary biblical tale, director Bruce Beresford's film stars Richard Gere as King David, favorite of the God of Israel. Although only a shepherd boy, David is anointed as heir to the throne of Israel by Samuel (Dennis Quilley), who is disgusted with the weakness of Saul (Edward Woodward). When David brings the protracted war with the Philistines to an end by defeating their champion Goliath (George Eastman) in battle, he is celebrated by his people but must flee the country to avoid being killed by Saul, whose jealousy he has aroused. When Saul and his sons finally die in battle, David assumes the throne--but not without a sense that it is covered in blood. As time passes, he finds himself in vicious battles with neighboring tribes to ensure the survival of the Israelites. Despite David's many achievements, the exercise of power has a corrupting influence on the patriarch, and ultimately, even he is no longer favored by his God. Donald McAlpine's photography is superb, as is Beresford's direction.
