| | Make-Up I Want Some CD Make-Up Discography of CDs
I WANT SOME compiles 23 Make-Up singles onto one CD that includes an 11-page booklet.
Though it's not really a proper album, the Make-Up's 1999 singles compilation I Want Some is nevertheless their most dynamic, focused, and expressive collection of songs. Rave-ups like "Pow! To the People," "Every Baby Cries the Same," "The Untouchable Sound," and "Free Arthur Lee" showcase the development of the group's kinetic grooves and Svenonius' charismatic vocals, but quieter, introspective songs like "The Choice" and "Little Black Book" prove their versatility. The gritty pop of tracks like "Walking on the Dune" and "Born on the Floor" completes I Want Some's portrait of the Make-Up as one of the underground's most stylish -- and substantial -- bands. ~ Heather Phares

| | Neutral Milk Hotel On Avery Island CD (1996)
I Want Some CD music
$11.59 Though singer/songwriter/bandleader Jeff Magnum would refine his brilliant, quirky psych-folk to perfection on the majestic IN THE AEROPLANE OVER THE SEA, ON AVERY ISLAND--the first offering from Neutral Milk Hotel--is full of rich rewards. | | Neutral Milk Hotel In The Aeroplane Over The Sea CD (1998)
I Want Some music CDs
$12.19 Neutral Milk Hotel leader Jeff Mangum is a popster who hears interstellar sounds as natural ingredients of his "pop." He was weaned with the inevitable four-track in his bedroom, schooled on a record collection stacked with John Cage and Captain Beefheart as well as the Beatles and the Kinks. There is an instant emotional intensity to Neutral Milk's music, and the seeds that were sewn on '96's lo-fi masterpiece ON AVERY ISLAND, bear an evolving ...
| | Sebadoh Harmacy CD (1996)
I Want Some songs
$10.35 These indie-rock pioneers generally adhere to two songwriting formulas--heartwrenching ballads of love lost, and punked-out guitar freakouts. They keep getting better at both. HARMACY is their first album since frontman Lou Barlow (he of many heartwrenching ballads) danced his way onto the airwaves with his other band, the Folk Implosion, and it's their most accessible ...
| | Mates Of State Team Boo CD (2003)
I Want Some album
$10.15 Mates of State are the husband-wife duo of Kori Gardner on keys of various types and Jason Hammel on drums and occasional keys as well. They both sing with innocent gusto, and their charming voices remind one of wonderful indie pop bands like Papas Fritas and Butterglory in the way they intertwine and twist with naïve fervor. They sound like real people singing about real things, and that is kind of exciting. And they don't use guitars of any kind. And you don't miss them either! Team Boo is the band's fullest sounding, most energy-filled record yet. The duo called in Jim Eno of Spoon and John Croslin, who has worked with Spoon also as well as Beulah and the Mates on their first disc, to produce. Together they have concocted a record that leaps out of the speakers with a feeling of manic joy and excitement. Songs like "Fluke," "Ha Ha," and "Gotta Get a Problem" dance with the energy of kids and reel with the flush of first love. Every now and then the record slows down the pace and deals with heavier issues like on the stately "Parachutes ...
| | Emmylou Harris Stumble Into Grace CD (2003)
I Want Some CD music
$12.39 STUMBLE INTO GRACE was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album.
Over three decades into a highly successful career as an interpreter of other writers' material, Emmylou Harris beats the odds by releasing her second consecutive album of original compositions. She's had plenty of time to learn from the best, and the lessons gained from digging into the work of writers like Gram Parsons, Leonard Cohen, and Townes Van Zandt can be felt here, even if she can't be expected to equal their mastery. She works again with members of the Spyboy band that helped reinvent Harris's sound on WRECKING BALL, but as on RED DIRT GIRL, the churning, rhythmic feel of the former is underplayed in favor of a gentler, more folkish approach.
Years ago, few could have guessed that one of Harris's most valuable ...
| | Vitamin C CD (1999)
I Want Some music CDs
$9.29 This is an enhanced audio CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
Vitamin C is Colleen Fitzpatrick, formerly of New York City's Eve's Plum. Her self-titled debut album finds the singer leaving the alt-rock stylings of her former band far behind in favor of a more urban, forward-looking sound.
The opening track, "Smile," employs the kind of Caucasian dance-hall rap style that made Barenaked Ladies famous, while "Unhappy Anniversary" is straightforward folk-pop, complete with jangling acoustic guitar and wistful vocals. "Me, Myself and I" cleverly interpolates the chorus from Santana's "No One to Depend On" in an arrangement that wouldn't sound out of place on a Smash Mouth album. Fitzpatrick makes good use of sunny pop melodies mixed with lazy hip-hop rhythms and state-of-the-art production touches throughout. And how could you not like a 1999 album that includes a cover of Split Enz' "I Got You"?
Vitamin C: Colleen Fitzpatrick (vocals).
Producers include: Garry ...
