The first two tracks lull the listener into thinking this is going to be a mellow, G-funk outing, but when the piano loop and beat commence in "Still D.R.E.," it's obvious Dre is still light years ahead of the rest. The dozen selections included on this rather brief (35-minute) CD have been reissued many times and in more complete form elsewhere. Originally cut for Musicraft and reissued since then by Fantasy and Discovery, the set consists of seven small-group and five big-band performances headed by the great trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie. "Blue 'N' Boogie" matches Dizzy with tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon, Gillespie joins forces with Charlie Parker on four tunes ("Hot House," "Groovin' High," "Dizzy Atmosphere," and "Things to Come") and teams up with Sonny Stitt on two others ("That's Earl's Brother" and "Oop Bop Sh' Bam").
