Anthrax: Neil Turbin (vocals); Scott Ian, Dan Spitz (guitar); Dan Lilker (bass); Charlie Benante (drums). Recorded at Pyramid Studios, Los Angeles, California. Personnel: Neil Turbin (vocals); Dan Spitz, Scott Ian (guitar, electric guitar); Charlie Benante (drums). Recording information: Pyramid Studios. Anthrax's lineup had not yet solidified when they recorded their debut album, and neither had their style. Fans of the group's peak-period material are likely to find Fistful of Metal off-putting, as the band sounds more like a Judas Priest knockoff with rather silly, stereotypical heavy metal lyrics than the thrash innovators they would become. Bassist Dan Lilker, who subsequently left to form Nuclear Assault, is present for this album, while vocalist Joey Belladonna is not. ~ Steve Huey Anthrax's lineup had not yet solidified when they recorded their debut album, and neither had their style. Fans of the group's peak-period material are likely to find Fistful of Metal surprising, as the band sounds more like Judas Priest...than the thrash innovators they would become. While the band's songwriting would improve and its sound would become more focused on later releases (1987's AMONG THE LIVING, for example), FISTFUL OF METAL contains at least one bona fide Anthrax classic. The best-known track is the perennial live staple "Metal Thrashing Mad," as well the lesser-known thrashers "Deathrider," "Anthrax," and a cover of Alice Cooper's "I'm Eighteen." Along with Metallica's KILL 'EM ALL, Megadeth's KILLING IS MY BUSINESS, and Slayer's HAUNTING THE CHAPEL, FISTFUL OF METAL helped signal the birth of thrash metal. Anthrax Fistful Of Metal Songs Fistful Of Metal Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) Anthrax When They Were Good! Being their 1st Release, Anthrax really hit it off!!! Thier sense of direction was somewhat clear...during this period of time, the band was not as Gooky & Wacky as later releases and not yet complete Sell-Outs. 'Fistful of Metal' was a true Thrash Album, though, like Metallica's 'Kill 'em All' and Slayer's 'Show No Mercy', this album is slow...well, 'Show No Mercy' and 'Fistful of Metal' are Faster than 'Kill 'em All' to be exact. Neil Turbin does Vocals on this albums as the Original singer and Dan Lilker (before Nuclear Assault) stands in as the original Bass Player. Overall, the feel of the album is great, it's pretty fast, the vocals are great and it has some of the catchiest riffs. No humor is found on this album, which is great (unlike the end of 'Spreading the Disease')and the band keeps their fast paste music serious. There are only 2 draw backs to this album that i can think of...
1) The Fact that there's a cover
track...sadly, an Alice Cooper
song. (though this version is a lil'
better than the original...in the
sense that it's slightly faster).
2)That it's not as fast as their later
releases...but hey, what do ya
expect? Thrash was just starting!!
Anyhooch, this is one of the few Anthrax titles i can recommend. Neil Turbin is excellent on vocals. Though, as we all know he was replaced by Joey Belladonna upon the bands 2nd release.
'Armed and Dangerous' is a great Mini-Album (Mini EP)Showcasing Joey as new Vocalist, and Frank Bello as new Bassist. Still in the serious mood and even better- Faster than 'Fistful of Metal'.
'Spreading the Disease' is super great! But, they started being a goofy band in their recordings.
'Among the Living' is just perfect in a sense. Most of the songs can get boring. Submitted by student_vigilante (Canyon Country, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A must for any true metal fan This is truly a lost treasure in the Metal/Thrash catagory. I think its sad that this album has been overlooked, while Kill 'em all and Show no Mercy(all made the same year)are often cited as the most influential. Although this album shows little if any direction the band was headed in, it definitly shows this band a force to be reckoned with. My favorites are Death Rider, Death From Above, Accross the River, aw screw it I like it all, anyway if you're a true metalhead buy this album you won't be disappointed. Fistful Of Metal
$7.79 Anthrax: Joe Belladonna (vocals); Dan Spitz, Scott Ian (guitar); Frank Bello (bass); Charlie Benante (drums). Recorded at Pyramid Sound, New York. Anthrax's first album with vocalist Joey Belladonna is a huge leap forward, featuring strongly rhythmic, pounding riffs and vocals that alternate between hardcore-type shouting and surprising amounts of melody. Two tracks left over from the Dan Lilker days are here as well. The traditional metal lyrical fare is more original, while also introducing a penchant for paying tribute to favorite fictional characters and pop culture artifacts ("Lone Justice" and "Medusa" are ...

Fistful Of Metal
$8.15 Anthrax: Joe Belladonna (vocals); Dan Spitz, Scott Ian (guitar); Frank Bello (bass); Charlie Benante (drums). Recorded at Quadradial Studios, Miami, Florida. Personnel: Joey Belladonna (vocals); Dan Spitz (guitar, electric guitar); Carol Freedman (cello); Charlie Benante (drums). Audio Mixer: Bridget Daly. Recording information: Quadradial Studios, Miami, FL. Photographer: Gene Ambo. The proper follow-up to Among the Living was somewhat inconsistent...There are some good moments -- "Be All, End All" is one of the band's most melodic moments, and several other tracks catch fire -- and the best thing here is a cover of Trust's "Antisocial"...The lyrics ...

$8.15 Anthrax: Joe Belladonna (vocals); Dan Spitz (acoustic & electric guitars); Scott Ian (guitar); Frank Bello (bass); Charlie Benante (drums). Audio Mixers: Robin Yeager; Mark Whitaker. Audio Remixer: Mark Senasac. Recording information: Prairie Sun Studios, Cotati, CA (07/1984). Had it been released immediately after it was recorded in 1984, Exodus' Bonded by Blood might be regarded today alongside Metallica's Kill 'em All as one of the landmark albums responsible for launching the thrash metal wave. But by the time it finally ...

Audio Mixer: Russell Fischer. Recording information: Keyclub, Hollywood, CA (10/02/1998-10/03/1998). Editor: Tommy Dorsey . You've seen it over and over again since the advent of the compact disc: best-of collections or live sets from veteran rock acts getting reissued countless times, with different titles/cover artwork, but the same exact music. Such is the case with the 2004 Cinderella release, Live from the Gypsy Road. Recorded over two nights in October of 1998, the album was originally released in 1999 as Live at the Keyclub, before being issued as In Concert in 2004, and then finally being reissued for an unprecedented third time later the same year. All this leads you to wonder -- is this some sort of record for most repackagings/reissues of the same album in the shortest period of time? Regardless, all of Cinderella's ...
