Overkill: D.D. Verni (bass guitar); Rat Skates, Bobby Gustafson, Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth. Personnel: Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth (vocals); Bobby Gustafson (guitar); Rat Skates (drums). Audio Mixers: Alex Perialas; Overkill. Recording information: Phantasy Theatre, Cleveland, OH (06/03/1987/01/27/1990); Ritz, N.Y.C., NY (06/03/1987/01/27/1990); Ritz, New York, NY (06/03/1987/01/27/1990); Venture Sound Studios (06/03/1987/01/27/1990). Photographer: Ron Akiyama. New York's Overkill are somewhat forgotten today, but during thrash metal's heyday, they were one of the genre's fastest, hardest, and hungriest. In their late 80s heyday, they were capable of whipping crowds into a mosh pit frenzy like no one else. The mostly live document FUCK YOU & THEN SOME is a snapshot of the thrash scene in all its brutal glory. After the studio title track that opens the record, it's pure mayhem, with favorites like "Rotten to the Core" and "Use Your Head" causing secondhand whiplash from the headbanging fans in the front row. It's speed, power, and crunch in a raw form. | | Iron Maiden Ed Hunter CDs (1999) CD-Rom Game
Fuck You & Then Some
$29.09 Discs One and Two of ED HUNTER contain tracks in the order of votes received on the Iron Maiden website to determine the "Top 20 Maiden tracks of all time." Disc Three is a CD-Rom game featuring these same songs. Producers: Martin Birch, Steve Harris, Nigel Green, Will Malone. This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Ed Hunter is a rather unique, fan-friendly three-CD set from British heavy metal heavyweights Iron Maiden. Two discs feature the band's best songs as chosen by fans on the official website. The running order of the 20 songs mirrors the vote ranking. Obvious favorites such as "The Trooper," "Run to the Hills," and "2 Minutes to Midnight" are included, but pay special attention to underrated tracks like "Powerslave," "Hallowed Be Thy Name," and "The Evil That Men Do." All of Iron Maiden's studio albums are represented, as well as the beloved Live After Death. The third disc is the Ed Hunter shoot-'em-up CD-ROM computer game. The object of the game is to pursue Iron Maiden's skeleton mascot, Eddie, through worlds reflected in the band's songs and album covers. Ed Hunter will most likely appeal to diehards. Casual fans would probably be best served by either the one-disc or two-disc version of Best of the Beast. ~ Bret Adams Talk about bang for your buck! One of the most popular heavy metal bands of all time closed out the 20th century with a package that says "thank you" to the group's longtime ...
| | New England CD (1979) (Import) Japan
Fuck You & Then Some
$43.09 New England: John Fannon, Jimmy Waldo, Gary Shea, Hirsh Gardner. Produced by Paul Stanley of Kiss who was also represented by manager Bill Aucoin, this Boston band's debut still stands as their finest. "Hello, Hello, Hello," much like Alice Cooper's use of Rolf Kemp's "Hello Hooray," is a nice opener, but the lyrics are more like Stevie Nicks witchcraft and magic. Song two is the most classic statement made by writer John Fannon and his group New England. "Don't Ever Wanna Lose Ya" is perhaps the shortest poem/song on record by Fannon, but it is his most famous. There are swirling keyboards by Jimmy Waldo and the precision the band is known for in performance. Like another Boston-based group, Private Lightning on A&M with their local hit "Physical Speed," these groups were ahead of their time and exploring sounds that were not identified with the city that brought the world the Modern Lovers, Aerosmith, and the Jonzun Crew. But with three albums on a major label, and superb production, New England had a good shot at the brass ring and a tune with all the elements of "hit" in this track. "P.U.N.K." is also a song that generated attention. About a punk, and certainly not punk rock, although the band frequented (and played) the clubs like the Paradise and the Rat, which, no doubt, helped inspire this. "Shall I Run Away" has a great vocal from Fannon and is the best tune next to "Don't Ever Wanna Lose Ya" -- mellow with cosmic guitars, a unique sound removed from the Asia style producer Mike Stone and the band New England became known for, almost Roxy Music. And that is where the band could've really made its mark, by being more experimental and ...

Fuck You & Then Some
$11.49 Snow Patrol: Gary Lightbody (vocals). Personnel: Martha Wainwright (vocals); Warren Zielinski, Richard George, Karin Leishman, Beatrix Lovejoy, Rebecca Hirsch, Maya Magub, Paul Willey, Pauline Lowbury, Janice Graham, Ursula Gough, Charles Sewart, Richard Milone, Lucy Williams, Steve Morris, Everton Nelson (violin); Timothy Grant, William Hawkes, Maxine Moore, Matthew Souter (viola); Zoe Martlew, Adrian Bradbury, Caroline Dale, Caroline Dearney, James Banbury (cello); Jacknife Lee (keyboards, programming, background vocals); Ben Russell, Leon Bosch (double bass); Paul Archer, Iain Archer (background vocals). Audio Mixers: Jacknife Lee; Cenzo Townshend. Recording information: Angel Studios, Islington, London, England; Grouse Lodge Studios, Ireland; The Arches, Glasgow, Scotland; The Garage, Kent, England; The Garden, London, England. Photographer: Dan Tobin Smith. Arranger: James Banbury. Following up its 2004 breakthrough album, FINAL STRAW, the Ireland-bred/Scotland-based rock band Snow Patrol opted for an even more accessible sound on EYES OPEN. Frontman Gary Lightbody has always shown a penchant for crafting pop-savvy tunes, but this 11-track set takes his songwriting to new heights, as best revealed on the energetic anthems "You're All I Have" and "Hands Open." While these songs display grandeur on the scale of U2 and Coldplay, Lightbody also knows how to ease into a tender ballad, most notably the chiming "You Could Be Happy," which features delicate Bjork-like backing. Though much of the record is upbeat, Lightbody's melancholy sensibility still comes into play on the brooding "Shut Your Eyes" and "Set Fire to the Third Bar," a haunting duet with Martha Wainwright. Longtime fans may miss Snow Patrol's indie-pop quirkiness (a la "Get Balsamic Vinegar...Quick You Fool" from SONGS FOR POLARBEARS), but in its place is a mature and assured approach that is sure to appeal to a wide audience. The anthemic indie rock sound of Snow Patrol ...
