If you like any of these, you'll love the Gibbons Band and, while Any Road Up has debut written all over it, Rollin On is the finished article.
Gibbons IS Johnny Cool, a long black haired dude who happened to be born in Birmingham England and not Birmingham Alhabama, and this album is full of glorious songwriting delivered with the unassuming assurance of a tight band who know they're on absolute top form.
"Wild Flowers" is a beutiful introduction to Gibbons' prowess as a songwriter. Haunting reflective lyrics, golden harmonies, heart-tugging lead breaks, all delivered in a perfect melody. And it gets better...
"Light Up Yer Face" - a song so simply about nothing other than crackin' the 'bacca - is delivered with venemous aplomb and a driving beat loaded with riffs and picks that demonstrate what great guitar players messrs Carroll and Jones really are.
There's a Gibbons story for every low heeled sleazy joint in town, none so more cleverly born than "Mr Jones" - a bluesy humdinger that I've seen covered by many a band in England. And how "Please Dont Say Goodbye" failed to chart big on both sides of the Atlantic is a mystery. This song must possess one of the finest harmonic choruses ever written against a flowing tune that you'll be singing for days, nay years thereafter.
In his own inimitable style, and wearing his heart firmly on his sleeve, Gibbons finishes his finest hour with a live version of Jerry Reeds "Tupelo Mississippi Flash" - and after Gibbons has told his story and the guitarists have strutted their stuff, the band finish with a tremendous finale that befits one of the best rock/blues albums that the seventies created.
Mr Gibbons you are a star. Submitted by Garryhellawell (Huddersfield, England) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

1976's A NEW WORLD RECORD is both a classic of commercial '70s pop and an archetypal ELO album. From the outer-space synths and rich orchestrations that open the album to Jeff Lynne's meticulous production and Beatlesque melodies, A NEW WORLD RECORD is magnificent ear candy. Both ambitious enough to appeal to "serious" rock fans and ultra-catchy enough to sound terrific on Top 40 radio (the plaintively gorgeous, McCartney-like "Telephone Line" and the anthemic "Livin' Thing" were well-deserved smashes), ELO was one of the few '70s bands whose appeal covered both the FM and AM spectrums. The album even resurrects "Do Ya," a classic single by Lynne's former band, the Move, in a splashy ...

$7.59 Revered in its native Australia and renowned in other parts of the globe, Midnight Oil didn't achieve runaway international success until its sixth album, 1988's DIESEL AND DUST. Fronted by bald, towering singer Peter Garrett, the politically outspoken rock band certainly exuded no obvious qualities of celebrity, yet its insistent single "Beds Are Burning," a rallying ...

Any Road Up/Rollin' On CD music
$11.69 Despite what critics might have said about their two previous efforts, true hip-hop heads know that the Roots never fell off. On their seventh studio album, Philadelphia's favorite sons continue to elevate their signature sound that has for years appealed to rap purists and staggered the more critical listeners who love to lament the lack of musicianship in hip-hop.
Fans who were worried about how the crew's style would mesh with the Def Jam formula will be relieved from the gate, as the intro (an eerily ambient reworking of the Jay Dee-produced "Fantastic" intro) gives way to the upbeat, drum-driven "False Media." Equally relieving to longtime Roots fans is the return of Malik B whose aggressive delivery again provides balance to Black Thought's more measured cadence. On the whole, GAME THEORY contains heavier subject matter; the politics of the day pervade virtually every track, while the tone ranges from heated urgency ("Don't Feel Right" and "In The Music") to the uplifting and soulful ("Baby" and "Long Time") to sad introspection ("Atonement" and the bonus track tribute to the late Jay Dee). GAME THEORY is hip-hop with a message and shows us an angrier, more impassioned group of artists eager to tackle the issues confronting their community, yet still doing it with true bounce.
Game Theory is the Roots' equivalent of a Funkadelic playlist containing "Wars of Armageddon," "Cosmic Slop," "Maggot Brain," "March to the Witch's Castle," and "America Eats Its Young." It's a vivid reflector of the times, not an escape hatch (of which there are several readily available options). Spinning turbulence, paranoia, anger, and pain into some of the most exhilarating and startling music released in 2006, the group is audibly galvanized by the world's neverending tailspin and a sympathetic alignment with Def Jam. Batting around stray ideas and squeezing them into shape was clearly not part of the plan, and neither ...
