D.I.T.C. cohort OC returned in 1997 with his second full-length LP, titled Jewelz, and that is exactly what it is. Even though his 1995 debut was well-received within the hip-hop community, the same adulation did not correlate to sales success. Instead of succumbing to mainstream pressure, OC kept his music street-based, and the listeners reap the benefits of that high quality. With a production roster of top-flight NY producers (Premier, Buckwild, Da Beatminerz, Showbiz, Lord Finesse and Ogee) your ears never get a rest. "My World" sets it off and of the four cuts Primo contributed, this shines brightest: "My skills ill and all of that above/Confidence I'm not worried about a street buzz/I'm OC who you I never heard a ya/Get out my face before I turn into a mother*uckin murderer/I want the green like endo/A mansion a car/A wife who's never been a bimbo/Too much to ask well to me that's simple/Wanna retire on a yacht called 'the S.S. Minnow'." "Win the G" teams OC with Freddie Foxxx (one of the two tracks the pair collaborate on) over yet another Primo track. "Dangerous" is a party-type cut with OC and Big L flipping verses back and forth over a Beatminerz track. OC is truly one of the most skilled MCs in the business, and if he dropped a few cuts catered to radio we would probably hear more from him -- but here's hoping he never goes that route. Like OC said in his classic single, "Time's Up": "I'd rather be broke and have a whole lot of respect." ~ Matt Conaway

Vibe (9/97, p.232) - "...After a three-year hiatus,...O.C. has returned to drop some gems on 'em--or, to be more precise, JEWELZ....O.C. is still concerned with the decline of rap music, only now he's stopped criticizing and has started to lead by example..." The Source (9/97, p.211) - 3.5 Mics (out of 5) - "...O.C. is hardly compromising his MC abilities or selling out....O.C.'s ability to captivate a listener with the purity of his delivery is what drives this album..." Rap Pages (8/97, p.98) - "...Brooklyn's O.C. continues to elaborate on themes of creative control....O.C. stands apart in a world where many pose lyrical but really ain't true." | | Black Moon Enta Da Stage CD (1993)
Jewelz
$12.99 This is the defining album of East Coast crime rap, which was largely established by the Brooklyn-based Boot Camp Clik of MCs. ENTA DA STAGE is a classic in its genre, featuring deep-in-the-crates beats by DJ Evil Dee (who continues to have a presence in New York's underground hip-hop scene), lurid street imagery delivered by MCs Buckshot and 5T and a flavor forever reminiscent of early-'90s New York.
As much a social phenomenon as a congregation of ...
| | Smif-N-Wessun Dah Shinin' CD (1995)
Jewelz
$12.79 Smif-N-Wessun gained instant recognition due to their first single "Bucktown," which flourished as an anthem for all of Brooklyn's underground heads. But the initial hype never died down because the DJs soon pounced on the B-side, "Let's Git It On," and raised it to street-hit status as well. The group's full-length debut, ...
| | Beatnuts CD (1994)
Jewelz
$9.89 The Beatnuts' first full-length album is as pure a document of raw, hardcore hip-hop circa 1994 as is possible to get. No pop hooks, no slick production, no ballads or lyrics about money and girls. The individual cuts don't really stand out, instead flowing seamlessly into a powerful whole. It's almost a period piece, given the way that hip-hop eventually gave way, as the '90s progressed, to the excessive bling-bling of the Puff Daddy era, but it also sounds strikingly minimalist and stark, which prevents it from sounding ...

$13.15 For years my daughter has been telling me that I should record a family/children\'s album. She remembers all the songs I sang to her when she was small and how much joy it brought to her and her brother. She relates me to the \"Pied Piper\" when I sing to children. They seem to be drawn to my music and are mesmerized as I entertain them and their parents.I was in the process of releasing my last album, \"Legacy\", when she said, \"Dad, when are you going to record that family album?\" I told her I don\'t have enough ideas for an entire album and she replied, \"But I do!\" Being a kindergarten teacher with a vivid imagination has allowed her to see things \"Through A Child\'s Eyes\". So I said to her, \"send me some concept lyrics and we\'ll take it from there. While I was nearing completion of \"Legacy\", she emailed me her first idea. I was blown away! The Idea became, \"The Magic Room\". My daughter ...
