This is one of Hickman's best albums, due in large part because the sound quality is very good, which is more than you can say for some of his other CD's. I would say Duke of Dirt and Boat Ride are the two to get for a good overview of what Jay was about, and both have very good sound. Picture Jeff FOxworthy crossed with Richard Pryor. A crazy, foul-mouthed, fast-talking redneck. I wouldn't exactly call it "smart comedy," so if you're looking for penetrating insight, this probably isn't the place to be, but for sheer, uncouth, X-rated laughs, this is sure to be a winner. If you buy all seven of his CD's, be forewarned: the sound isn't great on some of them, adn you're going to get a fair amount of repeat material. The "Biiiig Woman" part at the end of Duke of Dirt shows up in slightly altered form on another CD, I forget which, where Jay has trouble getting the crowd to participate. Like many comedy CD's it's very short, right around a half hour. Laughing Hyena really should put two on one disc, and maybe split them up into separate tracks to make it easier to find your favorite parts.

A lesser cousin to Annie, musically speaking, I and Albert enjoyed a brief London run under director John Schlesinger, which yielded this album, produced by Norman Newell. The recording is fine enough technically, spacious and rich in texture. The music is mostly less memorable, this being a highly British musical composed by an American (Charles Strouse, of Bye Bye Birdie and Annie), and suffers from a certain archness. Comedian Jim Breuer is best-known for his more memorable characters and impressions on Saturday Night Live as well as his portrayal of the perpetually stoned Brian in the cult comedy hit Half Baked. Before both of these incarnations he was a successful standup comedian with an open love of partying and 1980s heavy metal music. These loves are fully represented on his CD Smoke and Breu, with bits about AC/DC, hallucinogenic drugs, and drinking. The CD also offers insights into his three years on SNL with stories about meeting Joe Pesci and Robert DeNiro, experiences with fellow SNL actor Norm MacDonald, and the origins of his most famous character, Goat Boy. The entire performance is accompanied by a rock band made up of some of Breuer's childhood friends, which augments many of the jokes and allows the comic to display his uncanny ability to imitate the best heavy metal singers, including AC/DC's Brian Johnson. If there is anything lacking in the recording, it is that there are some gaps where Breuer is obviously performing more physical and visual comedy. It is obvious that the recording was culled from a performance originally staged for television and was simply adapted for this recording, but overall the CD satisfies both the casual fan and the most dedicated Jim Breuer follower. ~ Michael Cusanelli

K-Pet is from Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Their musical style is influenced by electronica, modern jazz, trip hop, and rock.
