Rainbow includes: Ronnie James Dio (vocals); Ritchie Blackmore (guitar); Cozy Powell (drums). All tracks have been digitally remastered. Long Live Rock 'n' Roll may be singer Ronnie James Dio's last album with Rainbow, but at least he went out on a high note. While the material is not quite as strong as on the previous studio effort, Rising, Long Live Rock 'n' Roll maintains the momentum the band had built up. "Kill the King" had been previously heard on the live On Stage record, but here it sounds more fully realized. Also, the title track from the album stands as one of the best songs the band did, not to mention a noble sentiment. The chugging "L.A. Connection" is another highlight. As with all of their first four albums, this one was produced by Martin Birch (who produced everyone from Blue Öyster Cult to Wayne County), and he really knows how to get the best out of the band by this point. The result is that the songs couldn't sound any better, so even if some of the material isn't quite up to their best, the album is still very cohesive, steady, and, ultimately, satisfying. This would turn out to be the last great album Rainbow would ever make, although they did enjoy a great deal of chart success in the post-Dio era. ~ Geoff Ginsberg Released in 1978, LONG LIVE was the final Ronnie James Dio-fronted release by Rainbow. Dio would go on to front Black Sabbath, while guitarist Richie Blackmore would reunite with Deep Purple. The album caps off a string of tremendous releases from one of the strongest branches on the heavy-metal family tree. The title track is a fan favorite and one of the strongest tunes from this era--a heavy rock tune written for arenas. "Lady of the Lake" is a solid number featuring haunting background vocals. "L.A. Connection" features the piano tinglings of keyboardist David Stone. "Gates of Babylon" is a mammoth track featuring the Bavarian String Ensemble, as synthesizer and strings combine for a symphonic big-rock sound. Another standout is "Kill the King," a speedy, full force tune with Mr. Blackmore doing what he does best. Blackmore opens the thunderous "The Shed (Subtle)" with a fluid, effects-laden bluesy solo. "Rainbow Eyes" is a seven-minute epic that features a string quartet, flute, and Dio's euphonic balladry. LONG LIVE, while not the masterwork that is RAINBOW RISING, is a strong album that ends the Dio era on a high note. Long Live Rock 'N' Roll Music Rainbow Long Live Rock 'N' Roll Songs Long Live Rock 'N' Roll Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) Long Live Rainbow! If Dio stuck to this kind of music until magica, he would have been the undisputed king of rock. This album IS the album. I mean, Kill the king, Gates of Babylon, Long Live rock'n'roll and Rainbow Eyes. All of these tracks lifted up Rainbow up in the sky, where the band belonged in the begining. Gates of Babylon is a track so unqiue that you can't find any new metal bands of the 90s or 2000 affording to make such a cut. The artwork is admirable beside the one underrated hit "Rainbow Eyes". Wake up in the morning and rock on "Long Live Rock'n'Roll" and turn off the lights and sleep on "Rainbow Eyes". Essential to rock and metal fans! The best Rainbow ever released! When I first heard this record 20 years ago, I was completely blown away. The lyrical content on this release proves that Ronnie James Dio is the undisputed KING of metal.
"Lady of the Lake" is an incredible ode to the Arthurian Quest.
"Gates of Babylon" is simply brilliant.
"Rainbow Eyes" is an ode to a lost love.
If you like Dio or Dio-era Black Sabbath, then you will LOVE this CD.
The line up on this is top notch, and Cozy Powell's drumming is incredible.

One of the All-Time Greats. "Gates of Babylon" alone makes the disk worth the purchase. "Long Live Rock and Roll" and "Rainbow Eyes" capture these performers at the top of their form. "Kill the King" is as powerful here as on "On Stage." After you get comfortable with this one, check out Yngwie's interpretation of "Gates of Babylon" on "Inspiration." Long Live Rock 'N' Roll
$11.49 Kristina Olsen: 'Quiet Blue'It would be impossible for anyone with blood in their veins not to empathise with her… full-throated voice and crisp guitar. John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald, Australia Olsen rocked the audience with her traditional blues style laced with modern lyrics. “She’s original and she’s modern. She was the best performer here,” said one of the vendors who had been listening to the blues for two days. Kendra Milligan, Sun News, New Mexico USA Olsen’s singing is as powerful as it is delicate, forceful as it is tender, and she asks a lot of herself, instrumentally, vocally, and emotionally. The audience loved it, demanding that Olsen return to the stage for three encores. Patrick Shepherd, The Press, Christchurch, New ZealandFor years Olsen’s fans have been requesting a recording of her original blues. Now their wishes have been answered. Thirteen tracks all with a firm grounding in blues, from raucous and bawdy slide to tender acoustic jazzy blues to boogie blues mandolin, fans of Olsen’s and blues in general will kick up their heels and do some serious smiling. Recorded live in studio in northern New South Wales, Australia with mandolinist Al Hughes and drummer Scott Hills the chemistry between the musicians is infectious. They especially chose to record all in the same room to preserve the live, you-are-there feeling. “Scott used his hands on the drum set sometimes or played with sticks on his legs to keep the volume levels right. That’s something I miss in the world of studio recordings, with everyone isolated in separate booths. Recording this way you are reacting to each other,” says Olsen. She met Al Hughes at a jam night, and loved his playing so much she suggested getting together to jam whenever possible. When she started working on the cd, it was an obvious choice to include him. “Al is that rare player who plays many instruments and styles and is a beautiful harmony singer. It’s like I’ve found a counterpart to my own eclectic insatiable musical mind. And Scott Hills, I’ve seen him play with many different kinds of bands, ...
