| | Too Short Married To The Game CD (2003)
Soft Ocean Sounds Soundtrack album
$8.99 "Ladies and gentlemen, I'd like to introduce you to someone you already know," goes the intro of "Choosin'," the opening track of Too Short's MARRIED TO THE GAME. Remarkably, the Oakland rapper's name still has clout decades after he released his first album out of his car at the dawn of hip-hop in 1983. In fact, it would be pretty safe to call Too Short the first West Coast hip-hop superstar, influencing every West Coast rap act, from the hardcore bounce of NWA to the intellectual musings of the Hieroglyphics.
MARRIED TO THE GAME opens with Too Short hanging out at the corner of the club with Jagged Edge and Jazze Pha, waiting for the girls to come to him on the funky "Choosin'." Short shows he can still deliver on the cautionary tale with the hauntingly eerie and reflective "That's How It Goes Down." Throughout the album, Short Dog ably fuses newer Dirty South-esque beats with old-school player style, nowhere more appealingly than on "Shake That Monkey" as 2003's experts on the subject, Lil Jon & the Eastside Boyz, drop by. On his 15th record, Too Short proves he can still bring something new to the game.

| | Andean Legacy CD (1996)
Soft Ocean Sounds Soundtrack music CDs
$10.85 A collection of Andean works on the Narada label. Some of the more traditional outfits in the genre are present, as are a few of the more progressive ones. The album starts out with one of the better ensembles around, Savia Andina; providing one of their better known numbers "Tempestad." It then moves through numbers by Alturas (a US-based cultural outfit), Viento de los Andes (an Ecuadorian traditional group), and Echoes of Incas (a Northern-end Latin American group doing South American music). Rumillajta appears with some stunning work on strings and flutes to follow, and some more modern ...

| | Richard Youngs River Through Howling Sky CD (2004)
Soft Ocean Sounds Soundtrack CD music
$12.49 Glaswegian Richard Youngs has been on a jag the past few years, creating a new kind of singer/songwriter music that draws on -- instead of relying on -- tight, close-ended compositions about specific themes, or even songwriting tropes at all. Evidenced by Making Paper and May, Youngs broke down to their barest essentials the tools of the songwriters' trade to just stark acoustic guitar and pianos, and created vast landscapes where form was pliable and, in some cases, nearly non-existent, and content was free to roam the inner vista of a particular composition. On 2003's brilliant Airs of the Ear, Youngs brought the electric guitar into the mix, as well as numerous found sounds and effects, as a way of creating and releasing tensions inside his songscapes, and as a device for setting them with near visual landmarks as they meandered and crawled their way through a listener's consciousness. On River Through Howling Sky, Youngs goes even further afield in much the same way Scott Walker did with Tilt. There are only four tracks on this outing. And the electric guitar becomes a ...

| | Alice Cooper The Last Temptation CD (1994)
Soft Ocean Sounds Soundtrack CD music
$5.95 This limited edition release of THE LAST TEMPTATION is specially packaged with a full-size, 36 page, full-color Marvel comic book. The comic was conceived in part by Neil Gaiman, best known for his Sandman comic book series.
THE LAST TEMPTATION is based on a three-part comic book series, created by Neil Gaiman, author of the comic "Sandman."
In 1994, coming off the commercial disappointment of HEY STOOPID, Alice Cooper decided to switch gears and composed his first concept album since the '70s, THE LAST TEMPTATION. Cooper worked with a trio of producers--Andy Wallace (Slayer), Don Fleming (Hole), and Duane Baron (Ozzy Osbourne)--to create an interesting sonic balance. A number of renowned rock artists again lend their songwriting talents to this collection. However, only Chris Cornell actually plays on the album, unlike the all-star cast of musicians who appeared on Cooper's last release.
While the album wasn't a major hit in the United States, it was Alice's third top-10 release in England and ...
