| | Winter's Solstice: Silver Anniversary Edition CD (2001) Silver Anniversary Edt
Om Tara: Mantras From Tibet CD music
$6.09 This is part of Windham Hill Records "A Winter Solstice" series.
One of the most well known productions of the Windham Hill label, which basically invented new age music but prefers the term "contemporary instrumental," has been the WINTER'S SOLSTICE series. Perhaps inspired by the season-based recordings of George Winston, the SOLSTICE albums (which feature tunes from a variety of the label's artists) have always been not Christmas albums per se, but winter albums. Of course, a few Yuletide-oriented tunes do find their way onto this, the anniversary edition of the first volume in the series, but for the most part ...

| | Reverse Causality CD (2006)
Om Tara: Mantras From Tibet CD music
$6.69 Reverse Causality is different from other compilations of its nature because it thrives on the random chance of finding amazing artists while trawling the internet and hearing new and striking sounds as these artists collaborate. The objective behind Reverse Causality as it was being compiled was to create an album unrestricted by genre, an album for people who enjoy good music in whatever form it may take. The results exceeded our wildest imagination, meandering between pounding beats, raucous riffs, acoustic bliss and the blues (of course). Though my words may be more than a little biased, I honestly believe that each and every song on this disc is a gem that, though unlike its counterparts, still blends perfectly with them into an eclectic mix that is bound to surprise and delight. Our artists come from all over the western world and all over the musical spectrum, and yet they share a passion for music that makes them apt contemporaries. Reverse Causality begins wildly with the hilariously serious beats of G-Willikuz before progressing on to a trio of perfect Indie-pop compositions courtesy of Dog Day, Fast Heart Mart and Annie Lo and another upbeat note by Peach Stealing Monkeys. Following this auspicious beginning Reverse Causality takes you into deep passage of subtle IDM/Electronica throbbing featuring a couple of our notable collaborations first between khjzhy and Xaieroscape and then between The Chill Conspiracy and Sebastian Svahn. Just as one is being lulled ...
| | Vince All-Stars Bartels Bartels,Vince All-Stars Vol. 1-Vince Bartels All-Stars CD (2005)
Om Tara: Mantras From Tibet music CDs
$9.49 Vince Bartels' All-Stars, a.k.a. Migrant Jazz WorkersFloyd Levin's liner notes on Vol. 1 (2004):This session seemed like just a casual meeting of world-famous colleagues with a mutual admiration for each other. There was no tedium -- no tension -- but an abundance of joviality, laughter, warm camaraderie, and many "thumbs-up" gestures during the recordings... [There was] instant creativity and meticulous attention to detail that energized the wonderful music on this CD...The six musicians had never played together as a band. There were no previous rehearsals or written arrangements. After briefly tuning their instruments and "warming up," the songs were selected on the spot, and ad hoc "arrangements" were hastily discussed. After selecting a number, they quickly agreed on the key and tempo, and considered starting with the verse or merely a brief piano introduction -- or right "from the top." They usually talked about the sequence of solos, and the endings. Should there be an abrupt closure -- or a brief tag? Perhaps only a cymbal crash? A coda? Or a fade out?The seasoned jazzmen also carefully planned the "bridge," the eight-bar middle segments separating the opening and final choruses of most tunes. To give each number a distinctive sound, they might play the bridge as an ensemble, or perhaps delegate it to an individual musician. On some tunes, you will notice that the tonal contrast of the bridge sets a spark igniting some very steamy endings. Having appropriately established these many vital elements, someone usually said, “Let’s play it!”When engineer Bryan Shaw, in his upstairs control booth, announced that the tape was rolling, the pros did what they do best! They displayed a remarkable degree of spontaneity, vitality, and total compatibility that thoroughly justified ...
