Borrasca means tempest or storm, and that's exactly what Ottmar Liebert has created in the music world. His latest effort has been eagerly anticipated and the reception has been nothing short of phenomenal. This third release augments the "power-trio" approach of Ottmar and his mates Jon Gagan (bass and keyboards) and Dave Bryant (hot percussion and drums) with special horn arrangements that lend an almost mariachi flavor and strong Latin appeal. ~ Backroads Music/Heartbeats

| | Vinnie Moore Mind's Eye CD (1986)
Borrasca CD music
$13.65 Recording information: Prairie Sun Studios, Cotati CA (08/1996).
Who's faster: Yngwie Malmsteen or Vinnie Moore? That was the question back in 1986 when this recording was released. An obvious clone of Malmsteen, Moore burst upon the scene proving that, yes, someone else could play "that fast too." The problem with Mind's Eye and the subsequent genre of shredding that followed was that it became stagnant. Malmsteen turned heads from all musical styles because of his technical proficiency back in the early '80s, but those same heads quickly turned away to find out that there was little more being offered than really fast scales. The speed alone was not enough to hold many rock or fusion fans' interests for very long, as each guitarist seemed to be playing the same ideas, just at faster ...
| | Vinnie Moore Out Of Nowhere CD (1996)
Borrasca music CDs
$13.15 When the dense and often difficult guitar virtuoso subgenre fell on tough commercial times in the '90s, first-tier artists like Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen began to lose their relevance. As hard as the new musical environment was on the legitimate icons of shred, it was nearly catastrophic for many talented but undefined artists such as Vinnie Moore. A former neo-classical fret-burner, Moore was already leaning toward the upbeat boogie and mainstream rock sound of Joe Satriani in the early ...
| | Greg Howe Ascend CD (1999)
Borrasca songs
$13.45 The '90s were not a good decade for shredders. In 1990, it seemed as if their place within the rock & roll pantheon was secure, but grunge and alternative quickly banished them to an underground world where most cult artists exist -- a world of independent record labels, word-of-mouth buzz and specialized magazines. Nobody escaped the purge, even though all of the guitarists were quite talented. Once they were away from the spotlight, the guitarists decided to go hardcore, not compromise their principles and make music for one very specific audience. That's why outsiders will be confounded by records like Greg Howe's Ascend, even if they're stunned by his technical mastery. Like hardcore punk, bebop or gangsta rap, shred guitar sounds the same to the untrained ear -- and it is, to a certain extent. Each album utilizes the same song structures and pacing, while all the guitarists emphasize technique, playing so fast that only aficionados will catch the subtle differences between musicians. Howe is a speed demon, essentially, and he can't keep his right hand off the fretboard or stop himself from sweep-picking even on ...
| | Ottmar Liebert Nouveau Flamenco CD (1990)
Borrasca album
$11.39 NOUVEAU FLAMENCO, Ottmar Liebert's debut album, was a tremendous success upon its release in 1990; it went platinum, and paved the way for Liebert's popularity in both the New Age and mainstream markets. On the tenth anniversary of the album, Higher Octave Records re-mixed, re-mastered, and re-released NOUVEAU FLAMENCO, adding five previously unreleased tracks. Higher Octave's re-release testifies ...
| | Ottmar Liebert Poets & Angels CD (1991)
Borrasca CD music
$11.35 Ottmar Liebert, an established flamenco guitarist, comes forth here with shining brilliance, presenting a charming collection of 15 songs worthy for a listen during a peaceful Christmas holiday. The songs, glistening with textures of smooth Latin rhythms, are played remarkably well and hold up find as instrumentals. The CD begins with "Deck the Halls," a bright and percussive piece of festive magic. The second track, "Gloria," seems to take the listener to a higher and more positive place, keeping the world at peace at the end of a long workday. The listener will notice he or she is being pulled in by the gripping percussive Latin rhythms as the CD ages in length. The title track, is an creatively arranged and delightfully orchestrated piece that flows with both musical dexterity and melodic color. And if one imagines this collection ...
