After years as lead guitarist for Jefferson Starship, Craig Chaquico makes his solo instrumental debut with Acoustic Highway. The album is filled with uniquely memorable harmonies and emotional guitar melodies which rotate and shine, turning on its own diverse axis through passionate rhythms on "Return of the Eagle," romantic sensual moods of "Summer's End" or the irresistible opening riffs on the first cut, "Mountains in the Mist." Keyboards and percussion are ably handled by co-writer and co-producer Ozzie Ahlers, with all the guitars and stereo guitar sound effects provided by Chaquico. MICHAEL JERLING - LITTLE MOVIESLittle Movies marks Michael's first CD of new songs since his 1997 Waterbug release, In Another Life. Recorded primarily in his home studio in Saratoga Springs, NY, and mixed at Scott Petito's NRS Studio in Catskill, NY, the album features Michael singing and playing 6 and 12 string acoustic guitar, harmonica, mandolin, and keyboards. Tony Markellis' acoustic fretless bass line kicks off the CD with Dawn Patrol, a vivid, Latin-tinged portrait of a gated retirement community. Old Henry's House follows with the tale of an old man's passing, as Michael's lone mandolin is joined by Teresina Huxtable's foot powered reed organ and Kevin Maul's haunting acoustic slide guitar. The song could be a documentary filmed with a handheld camera. The cinematic theme is carried on in Angelina, a dark, crime spree flick, Last Natural Man's futuristic 12 string guitar saga, the Cold War spy movie setting of Dirty Little War, and the familiar small town black & white charm of "It's a Wonderful Life". Spiritus Mundi is pure, unadulterated metal. The music is, for the most part, influenced by the great bands of the past as well as many bands from the present.
