Acoustic Planet album
$11.89 Already one of smooth jazz's best selling artists, guitarist Craig Chaquico is an artist least likely to need any sort of commercial boost; yet his fourth release Once in a Blue Universe sacrifices a bit of his trademark subdued musical spirituality for slick pop elements that seem calculated to increase his ...

| | Craig Chaquico Thousand Pictures CD (1996)
Acoustic Planet music CDs
$11.99 Craig Chaquico has found a nice groove, one that he develops very nicely in this smooth, low-key album. The primary focus is Chaquico's elegant guitar playing, though there are guest spots on the album (Richard Elliot and 3rd Force). The tones are interesting, the overall feeling is a very settled one. The music grabs your attention without resorting to anything outrageous, making for a very enjoyable set. Listeners who own computers with CD-ROM playrs will be able to take advantage of the Enhanced ...
| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
Acoustic Planet songs
$6.19 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan ...
| | Drive-By Truckers Southern Rock Opera CDs (2001) Digipak
Acoustic Planet album
$11.99 A sprawling two-disc set, the Drive-By Truckers' SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA is a cracked masterpiece that's enjoyable on several different levels. Hipsters might enjoy the giggly premise of a two-disc set devoted to a slightly altered retelling of the rise and fall of 1970s Southern ...

| | Young Person's Guide To Compact CD (2007) Remastered
Acoustic Planet songs
$14.15 Originally released as an elaborate double-album set in 1982 to showcase the art-retro label's lineup and overall artistic aesthetic -- something pitched somewhere between John Waters' sets (if not his scripts) and the type of thing that the Rezillos adored -- A Young Person's Guide to Compact is a loving and entertaining embrace of a slew of sounds and styles that still holds up well after the quietly confrontational context of the album's release. Little surprise that Virna Lindt starts off the album with her excellent "Attention Stockholm" single; she also makes various other appearances on the album with "The Dossier on Virna Lindt," later to appear on her debut album, Shiver, as well as otherwise unavailable songs like "Young and Hip" and the dramatic-then-peppy "Model Agent." The other standout in terms of profile would be Mari Wilson, who would soon take her own brand of retro-party to the U.K. charts; much more of a straight-up singer than Lindt, she takes easy control of songs like the handclap-heavy "Beat the Beat" (one of many examples that show acts and label weren't simply interested in redoing the past straight-up), a brief live version of "Rave," and "Dance Card," a pure neo-Motown confection. The remaining acts are a little more of a mixed bag but not a bad one by any means. The Beautiful Americans have three cuts, suggesting similar retro pop fetishes but slotting in very nicely with the era of "new pop" in the U.K. just as well -- if "Sparkletones" isn't quite "All of My Heart" by ABC, it's not as far removed as might be guessed. The Popheads' self-consciously quirky synth pop confections ...
