All-star lead melodic voices work more effectively on 3rd Force's latest, Vital Force, because the primary goal set by the main trio of William Aura, Craig Dobbin, and Alain Eskinasi (multi-instrumentalists all) is to create a playground of vibe and atmosphere upon which others strut their stuff. Once again, and to great effect, the trio relies heavily on machine-generated grooves, easing between light funk and gentle hypnotic suggestions. The melodies are chiefly carried by the likes of labelmates Craig Chaquico and Ozzie Ahlers, not to mention Rick Braun and Peter White. The stars get the label copy, but on the whole, it's the horn section of Gary Herbig and Jeff Elliot that adds the most excitement to the forces underneath. They don't bill it as acid jazz, but it's as close as the smooth stuff gets. ~ Jonathan Widran

3rd Force Vital Force Songs Vital Force Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) Refreshingly different music If smooth jazz sounds like formula music to you and you liked the crossover jazz of the 70's, then you'll like Third Force and this release. While it is more laid back than the intense fusion jazz of the 70's, it still has the free-form borrow-from-everyone feel that breathed life into jazz 30 years ago.
The only other Third Force release I own is the debut, which I still listen to from time to time and I never get tired of it. The guitar work on it is more engaging, overall, than on this one but this one is still worth buying. Submitted by jaysnextaddress (Denver, CO, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Wonderful Smooth Jazz 3rd Force is exactly what I need right now. This calming, gently upbeat music is where I rest my heart these terrible days. The deep, deep sadness I feel for our unfortunite brothers and sisters in New York, Washington, and nationwide cannot be, nor should it be, dispelled, but a little solace can be found, if only for a little while, within the sweet refrains of 3rd Force. Thank you, guys. Submitted by a reviewer (Ca. USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Gotta Have It Lucked up on this CD in Kemp Mill (recommended by the head guy)...knowing my tastes, told me I would love it... He was wrong... I ADORE IT... It has a multitude of musical flavors. I'm just sad that it was stolen along with my car's cd... Not to worry... I just ordered another copy and will guard it with my life...
