SCHREI X LIVE is a live performance (intended by Galas to be experienced in total darkness) based on a 1994 radio work.
"This is not ambient music," admonishes a proclamation in the booklet accompanying this release. One wonders why Diamanda Galás or Mute thought this warning necessary, as Schrei X, presented here in both live and studio versions, is essentially a sequence of Beckettian monologues alternately shrieked, spoken, whispered, cried, or spat out, bearing little resemblance to the gentle waftings of Kitaro and crowd. In fact, a mere perusal of the titles of the pieces would presumably ward off the innocent ambient fan. Schrei X is one of the sparest of Galás' albums and possibly loses some effect on disc, where the visual theatricality of her performance (as well as her physical presence) is lost. This plus the fractured nature of the string of short pieces (based on texts found in Job and Thomas Aquinas as well as her own writing) act against any cumulative power that the work might otherwise have. Still, her voice is as powerful, convincing, and just plain scary as ever, and fans of her previous work will want to add this dark offering to their collections. ~ Brian Olewnick

It's a return to the starkness of her very earliest work....Galas hold back her most extreme acrobatics for the frighteningly brutal conclusion." Diamanda Galas Schrei X Live Songs | 1. | Do Room |

Schrei X Live
$10.69 Diamanda Galas, who has been known for both her own work and as a singer of extremely demanding modern scores, created this heart-wrenching cry about the physical suffering caused by the AIDS plague being compounded by the shameful arrogance of self-appointed moralists. Maintaining an incredible intensity and depth for over an hour's solo vocal (recorded live at The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, NYC, with suitably minimal band and electronics backup), Galas proceeds through Mahalia Jackson-influenced spiritual singing, saxophone-like wails, to dramatic dialogues in many dialects and languages ("there are no more tickets to the funeral") to engrossing Portuguese fado singing to taking on the attributes of Satan (in "Sono L'Antichristo," "I Am the Anti-Christ") in order to challenge the concept of a vengeful, instead of compassionate deity (and society), much as Nina Simone did in ...

Schrei X Live
$32.15 THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION includes rare tracks from the Health & Happiness radio show, pseudonymous tracks as Luke The Drifter, and 5 rarities only available on THE COMPLETE HANK WILLIAMS box set.
Recorded between April 21, 1947 & September 23, 1952. Includes liner notes by Kita Florita.
While there are numerous Hank Williams compilations on the market, very few can compete with this outstanding 2002 two-disc set, sporting wonderfully remastered sound, which surveys the hard-living country legend's all-too-brief yet toweringly important recording career during the late 1940s and early '50s. In addition to including Williams hits such as the saucy "Hey, Good Lookin'" and the morbidly witty "I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive" (fittingly released around the time of his 1953 death), THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION presents revered lesser-known tunes such as the restless "Ramblin' Man" (issued under the alias "Luke the Drifter") and the beautifully melancholy "Lost Highway," all of which feature the performer's charmingly nasal drawl and spare, lilting arrangements. Although more comprehensive Williams anthologies are available, this is undoubtedly ...

$17.09 Ali Calderwood and Daniela Broder make up the musical duo, Anima. Their music has been described as "powerful and hauntingly beautiful", infused with sacred energy and healing sounds. It blends angelic vocals, crystal bowls and guitar with didgeridoo, flute & drum, backed with beautifully spacious soundscapes and fluid textures. Our music creates a space for healing and inner journeying. The words and sounds are created to inspire the listener towards a connection with the Divine essence that lives inside them, bringing about a remembrance and recognition of the love that exists throughout creation. We have both spent a number of years living in different parts of the UK and travelling throughout the world. While living with indigenous peoples of North and South America, we spent time with Shamans and Elders learning their ancient ways, ceremonies and use of sacred sound. Individually we have spent extensive time exploring the ancient sacred sites and standing stones around the UK, which has brought us into a deep connection with nature, our ancestors, and the world of spirit. This in turn has become a huge influence in our lives today and many can feel the essence ...
