Though it wasn't until 1981 that they finally got around to splitting, 1979's D.O.A. was subtitled "The Third and Final Annual Report," and in many ways, it does sound like a summation of everything Throbbing Gristle accomplished in their years together. It's got humor (their 1978 underground hit "United" is included, albeit in fast-forward, so that the four-minute song lasts 16 seconds), shock-tactic horror ("Hamburger Lady" is a graphic account of a burn victim), and no end of fascinating/disturbing lyrical imagery and musical experiments.
Unlike their first album, SECOND ANNUAL REPORT, D.O.A. is largely studio created and consists of 13 discrete pieces, each with a theme and musical style of its own. Chris Carter's ABBA-meets-Kraftwerk "AB/7A," and Genesis P-Orridge's near-suicidal "Weeping," show the group's conceptual and musical range. This reissue also includes both sides of the single "Five Knuckle Shuffle"/"We Hate You (Little Girls)."
Personnel: Cosey Fanni Tutti (vocals, guitar, tapes); Genesis P-Orridge (vocals, violin, clarinet, bass guitar); Chris Carter (keyboards, synthesizer, electronics, tapes); Peter Christopherson (tapes).
Unknown Contributor Role: Peter Christopherson.

| D.O.A. Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars)   1978
..was the year this record came out.
I used to have the vinyl like the
rest of my TG collection. Most of
TG's output were live recordings;
in that respect this one is worth
checking out for its studio tracks.
It's def. one of the more interesting
releases. Having said that, I'd also
recommend Mission of Dead Souls,
Heathen Earth as well as 20 Jazz
Funk Greats. These are most essential. Submitted by Eden (Amazonas) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Stupid! For the previous reviewer: Did you happen to look at the year this disc was made??? It's freakin' 1979!! It's not incredibly near what industrial music is today. But they were some good pioneers of it. I liked this CD a lot. I listened to it because I'm a big X-files fan. And I thought the Chris Carter in Gristle was the same that was the director for x-files. But then came to find out it wasn't oh well. This CD rocks though!
