MISSION OF DEAD SOULS documents Throbbing Gristle's last concert. It includes two additional studio tracks.
Principally recorded live at Kezar Pavillion, San Francisco, California on May 29, 1981. Includes original release liner notes by John Savage.
As the title of this album suggests, Throbbing Gristle had for all intents split up before this final show was played in San Francisco in May 1981. The group split for the usual reasons--boredom, having taken the concept as far as it could go, the fact that Cosy Fanni Tutti had broken up with Genesis P-Orridge and was now Chris Carter's girlfriend--but this performance is not the bored, tiring plod you might expect under those circumstances.
Rather than spinning one or two improvisations out for a half-hour apiece and leaving it at that (as Throbbing Gristle often did in the early days), the foursome deliver 10 relatively concise separate pieces, making this a much more varied release than many of the literally dozens of live TG albums and tapes out there. P-Orridge is comparatively subdued, but he still sounds like he could kick Trent Reznor's whiny ass without half trying.
Digitally remastered by Chris Carter.

Mission Of Dead Souls
$9.85 Though Throbbing Gristle's label, Industrial Records, inadvertently gave the music world a new genre heading, there's not much in the way of clanging pipes or steam-vent hiss on 20 JAZZ FUNK GREATS. Then again, you'll find no jazz (title track excepted), precious little funk, and only 13 songs here. "Maturing" beyond the performance-art outrages of COUM Transmissions, TG's Genesis P-Orridge, Chris Carter, Cosey Fanni Tutti, and Peter Christopherson ...

| | Cabaret Voltaire Mix Up CD (1979)
Mission Of Dead Souls
$9.85 It's true that Cabaret Voltaire's first two proper studio albums hardly match the greatness of later works like Red Mecca, 2 X 45, and even 3 Crepuscule Tracks. Despite this, both Mix-Up and The Voice of America -- rather similar records that were released back to back in 1979 and 1980 -- only helped solidify Cabaret Voltaire's status as an integral part of the extended frisson of 1978-1982 post-punk, so if they had ceased to exist before their best work, it would still be very correct to refer to them as "important." ("Yes, important, but were they any good?") Mix-Up, their first album, impressively harnesses noise, primitive rhythm box percolations, tape ...

Mission Of Dead Souls
$15.69 2007 reissue of the debut by the female British duo, originally released in 1993 and now bolstered by six bonus tracks: 'We Don't Care', 'School Is Boring', 'Girls Round Here', 'Kinky Ken', 'Outta Control' and 'Excellent'. Jacqui Blake and Carrie Askew met as teenagers and, in the early '90s they started writing 'Last Exit', the first fanzine for the Manic Street Preachers. While still in their teens they formed Shampoo. Their first single 'Blisters and Bruises' was released by Icerink records on seven inch pink vinyl in 1993. Whilst their first two singles were all-out girl-punk racket, the following year saw the release of their most famous song, 'Trouble' and the album We Are Shampoo, which displayed a much more radio friendly sound. For the remainder of 1994 the Shampoo flag flew ...
