| | Bob Marley Mr. Chatterbox CD Bob Marley Discography of CDs
Recorded in Kingston between 1969 and 1972 by Bunny Lee and the great Lee Perry, MR. CHATTERBOX goes a long way toward righting one of the great wrongs done to Bob Marley's early career by compilation producers. Tracks 1-10 collect ten of Marley's classic Jamaican singles, including such greats as "My Cup," "Hypocrites," "Thank You Lord" (Marley's earliest devotional song) and one of Marley's all-time greatest, "Nice Time." Tracks 11-20 are the dub versions of these same ten singles. Most often found on the B-sides of singles, dub versions were echoey, effects-filled instrumentals, sometimes with bits of vocals dropping in and out of the mix. Given that most of these songs were produced by Lee Perry, dub's foremost practitioner (some say inventor), the fact that so few Marley dub tracks have been collected is bizarre, particularly when one hears how endlessly fascinating the versions are. This compilation is essential.
Includes liner notes by Franck Jacques.

Mr. Chatterbox album
$9.89 Ten Foot Pole sound more like punk rock contenders on their second album, which is far better recorded than the amateurish debut. Now part of the Epitaph family, Ten Foot Pole seem happy to uphold that label's well-worn aesthetics, rather than try to forge a new sound. Once again, the band makes no attempts to cash in on the pop-punk mainstream climate of the time -- ...

$9.95 All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.
Like any supergroup project, Pulley's Esteem Driven Engine has its moments of excitement, particularly when the band locks together and delivers a surging post-hardcore punk rush. However, there are large stretches of Esteem Driven Engine where Pulley simply flail away, wallowing in the jokey adolescent humor of "Barf" and "Wok Inn" or make noise just for the sake of it. Unfortunately, ...

Mr. Chatterbox music CDs
$10.35 All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.
On its third effort, Ten Foot Pole sound like a new band; with Dennis Jagard taking over the recently vacated lead vocalist position (former TFP singer Scott Radinsky had split to focus on his L.A. Dodgers gig full time), the band are reinvigorated. Sounding at times uncannily like Sunny Day Real Estate's Jeremy Enigk, Jagard lends an emotional and melodic coherency to his band's previously undistinguished ...

| | Ten Foot Pole Insider CD (1998)
Mr. Chatterbox album
$10.35 Punk purists will deny it with every ounce of strength in their scrawny bodies, but the simple fact is that punk rock has benefited greatly from being co-opted by the pop mainstream. Or maybe it's the other way around. Whatever. In any case, there's really no denying that much of the best punk rock is deeply informed by pop songcraft -- grumble all you like about Green Day being a Top 40 band, but at their best, they still write songs as tight and tuneful as Lennon and McCartney did in their heyday. Similar kudos are due to Ten Foot Pole, whose melodic punk rock throbs and roars with equal parts passion and discipline. And the lyrics are just as good: "Hammering Out the Details" is a headlong, panicky rush of a song that deals with the mundane horror of life in the rat race; "I Got Your Letter" includes an apology for not returning a friend's Hunter S. Thompson novel; "Nothing to Lose" seems to be about figuring out the dangers of skiing too fast. Imagine Hüsker Dü with a sense of humor and a tasteful drummer, and you'll have a good idea what to expect. ...
| | Bad Religion New America CD (2000)
Mr. Chatterbox CD music
$10.29 Best described as thinking man's punk rock, the 20-year veteran of a style at times diluted by weak imitation returns with its first studio release since 1998's NO SUBSTANCE. THE NEW AMERICA triumphantly reunites Bad Religion with founding guitarist Brett Gurewitz, and if that isn't enough to capture the attention of long-time fans, rock icon Todd Rundgren lends his much sought-after producing talents for these sessions.
Vocalist and principal writer Greg Graffin's trademark layered harmonies are an integral part of what places Bad Religion far above lesser punk acts, and here they dominate songs such as "1,000 Memories," "The Hopeless Housewife," and "A Streetkid Named Desire." Bad Religion is no stranger to social commentary on technology and its effect ...
