African-American gospel has been a tremendous influence on R&B/soul, and reggae certainly hasn't escaped its influence either. One of the best examples is Ras Michael's Kibir-Am-Lak, which is subtitled Glory to God. Essentially, this is an album of hymns -- anyone who has had any exposure to African-American gospels and spirituals cannot help but notice the parallels between the music of Black AME and Baptist churches, and soulful Michael offerings like "Over the Mountain," "Zion Land" and "New Name." But while Andre Crouch, Sister Clara Ward and other gospel greats have used their music to promote orthodox Christianity, Michael's hymns are very much Rastafarian hymns. From start to finish, this fine album sticks to a Rastafarian theme. Reissued on CD by the French Crocodisc label in 1994, Kibir-Am-Lak is well worth searching for. ~ Alex Henderson Ras Michael Glory To God Songs Glory To God Review

Georgia's B-52's came up from the south with a mission to puncture all musical pretension with a highly developed kitsch aesthetic and a savvy sense of fun. They were one of the definitive American new wave bands, and one of the most enjoyable. As shown on this generous two-disc career summary, the band's sound was informed by such pop culture detritus as horror movies, surf music, Las Vegas, and early-'60s dances like the Mashed Potato. Key early tracks such as the absurdist "Rock Lobster" and the evocative, grooving "52 Girls" exemplify the blend of Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson's post-modern girl group chirping and Fred Schneider's oddball declamations, while guitarist Ricky Wilson employed his best Dick Dale riffs to propel things along. The surprising second act in the band's career is represented by such '90s comeback smashes as "Deadbeat Club" and "Love Shack" which retain the spirit of the group's early material but add a new sheen. You couldn't ask for a better thumbnail sketch of the B-52's quirky magic than NUDE ON THE MOON.
'Nude On The Moon' lights up a pair of CD's with 35 tracks from 9 albums released between 1979-2001. Included are rarities like 'Quiche Lorraine' from the PETA 'Tame Yourself' & 'Whammy Kiss', live at the Cleveland Music Hall and a couple of unreleased tracks, 'Is That Mo-Dean?' (Inter-Dimensional ...

Glory To God songs
$12.05 Brought to you by the same people responsible for summer's annual Warped Tour extravaganza, winter's Taste of Chaos is another Kevin Lyman creation that's pretty much the younger, pissed-off brother of the elder punk-oriented festival. Offering a decidedly harder-edged lineup of bands than Warped, the winter 2004-2005 tour featured such heavy-hitters as Killswitch Engage, Atreyu, the Used, and Unearth, among many other screamo and metalcore-oriented groups represented on this tour compilation disk. However, even with a pretty solid roster of contributors for fans of the punk metal scene of the early 2000s, the record as a whole somehow comes up as pretty unmemorable and inconsistent. It's full of live cuts recorded at different stops along the tour's schedule, so don't get confused when one band is praising New Jersey and the next giving props to Los Angeles. Starting off pretty brash, Killswitch lend a blistering yet melodic cut, while Opiate for the Masses are just plain eerie and Unearth spew ...
