Unknown Contributor Role: Tim Gennert. As far as tribute albums go, this homage to seminal Canadian rockers Rush is hard to beat. For one thing, Magna Carta has made an inspired decision to have each song recorded by an all-star lineup rather than letting one band handle all the chores (with one exception -- Fates Warning get sole credit for "Closer to the Heart"). Often projects of this magnitude are doomed to failure from the start as a result of inadequate rehearsing, a shoestring budget, and sometimes a lack of talent capable of handling the songs with the respect they deserve. Working Man is a rare instance of everything going right. Terry Brown has done an incredible mixing job considering nearly all of the songs were recorded in different studios. The musicianship rivals the original versions -- occasionally besting them, particularly where the vocals are concerned. That, combined with the fact that many of these songs will be unfamiliar to casual Rush fans (hint: there's no "Tom Sawyer"), would lead one to believe that the musicians involved were already quite familiar with the material. Complaints are few (singers such as Jack Russell of Great White and Mark Slaughter don't really belong here), but commendations are nearly overwhelming: instrumental tour de force "La Villa Strangiato" is given an amazing rendition by Steve Morse and James Murphy; Sebastian Bach and James LaBrie turn in the most inspired singing of their careers; and mention should be made of Jake E. Lee's amazing leads as well as the solid drumming skills of Mike Portnoy and Deen Castronovo. Arguably the best tribute album ever made, Working Man will make a Rush fan out of many who may have written the band off based on their spotty '80s output. ~ Jeremy Ulrey Working Man Music Review Average Rating: (3.5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews House Of Hair If the late 80's early to mid 90's heavy metal/Glam scene was your bag then this CD is for you. High pitched cheez metal/glam vocals like Mark Slaughter made these Rush tunes suck. The music is great like "La Villa Strangiato" and "YYZ".Over playing and ego jamming is prevalent on all tracks. Billy Sheehan melodically taps over the sold bass lines that we all love Geddy Lee for. MIKE PORTNOY plays on tracks 1,2,3,4,5,& 8 and takes Neil Perts style to a dble bass heavy metal level he's got Neils chops down. Fates Warning puts a wanna be tuff twist on "Closer To The Heart"one of the three most disliked tracks on the album. Over all if you like fast playing and Rush didn't rock fast enough for you these guys will. Submitted by a reviewer (Gainesville,FL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

Great Tribute from Rush I hear that Neil Pearlt, the drummer from Rush is not happy with this tribute. I don't know If this information is true but I am a fam from Rush a lot of years ago and I like this tribute. It has a lot of great musicians like Billy Sheehan, Mike Portnoy,John Petruchi and many, many other. Great for progressive rock fans. Blows Doors Completely OFF! Great CD!
The versions of some of these songs not only compare but , in some cases elaborate on what was already a good idea.
A cast of "whos who" in rock , is a compliment in itself to the fore fathers of progrock.
Coolest tribute since N.I.B. , The Black Sabbath Tribute. Submitted by www.sullytoy (Janesville Wi.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$11.39 880 SOUTH 2008In 2004, former members of the popular funk-driven quartet, The Floppy Rods, rejoined and exploded on the Bay Area alternative dub rock scene in the form of 880 South. Their combined love of reggae, soul and good ‘ol classic rock ‘n roll was inspired in part by bands such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Steely Dan and Bob Marley. Since 880 South began touring in 2005, they have been showcased with some of today’s most inspiring performers: Slightly Stoopid, Fishbone, and the Expendables, just to name a few. With the release of 2008’s sophomore effort, "Youth Bus Sessions”, in the wake, the band is poised to bring their distinctive flavor to hungry crowds worldwide. The name 880 South originates from the California Interstate Highway that inspired frontman Luigi "Weege" Casaretto to write about his hometown follies and youthful adventures. Weege, guitarist Steve Shyshka and bassist Greg “G” Medeiros have been writing music together for over a decade. Their reputation was solidified by keg parties, wild women and energized funk rock. The early years they combined the elements of soul, jazz and rock. Thus allowing 880 South to rapidly develop a stellar rhythm section that has provided the backdrop for Steve’s scorching guitar work and Weege’s hip grinding-inspiring vocals. The 3 musicians collaborated in 2004 with Kasey Cox (drums) to record a 4-song demo. The 4 tracks were featured on MySpace.com and – along with their popularity on Sublimearchive.com – led to establishing 880 South as a band to be reckoned with. The following year, the band worked tirelessly to crank out their debut LP, “Beware”. The album, engineered by former Rods drummer Aaron Liebelt, contains 13 blistering tracks of classic dub and rock ‘n roll. Recorded ...
