102 minute feature film DVD starring Steven Rea and Donald Sutherland. This acclaimed drama, starring Irish actor Stephen Rea, tells the true story of one Soviet policeman's crusasde to capture a serial killer. But Detective Burakov has a problem: according to the government bureaucrats, communist Russia doesn't spawn such murderers -- that distinction belongs solely to the capitalist west. So they hinder every one of Burakov's efforts, which include contacting FBI experts who have worked extensively on such cases.
Meanwhile, even as the frustrated detective continues to fight the entrenched powers, victims -- often youngsters -- continue to die... Based on a true story and the book "The Killer Department" by Robert Cullen, CITIZEN X is the tale of the Soviet Union's eight year pursuit of a bloodthirsty serial killer who claimed the lives of 52 people (mostly teenage girls) between 1982 and 1990. A brilliant forensics expert (Rea) may hold the clues needed to finally apprehend the killer, but could they stop him before he strikes again? Sutherland won the Golden Globe for Supporting Role Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture Made for TV in 1996 and the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Special in 1995. Originally cablecast on HBO February 25, 1995.
Filmed in Budapest, Hungary.
Co-produced by Asylum Films and Citadel Entertainment.
The movie is based on the real-life hunt for a serial killer in the Soviet Union. The search lasted eight years. Citizen X Quotes/Excerpts: "There are no serial killers in the Soviet state... It is a decadent, Western phenomenon." -- Bondarchuk (Joss Ackland)

Citizen X Movie Review Average Rating: (4.4 out of 5 stars) As close to reality as it gets. Probably one of the best serial killer movies of our time, this show is very underated as a movie. It offers a real glimpse into the mind of a serial killer, this is based on a true story and shows the disturbing mind that haunts this person. No hero's in this movie just quality. It's a real gem and a real movie. If anyone knows if this movie is available in australia on dvd please let me know where to get a hold of this so i can add this to my collection. First-class thriller Very good movie. Well acted and althoug the story is about one of the most prolific serial killers in Russia there are not gory scenes. Stephen
Rea and Donald Sutherland are great.
You do not see what the killer does to his victims you just imagine and imagination sometimes can be worst than any picture. Submitted by navarragirl (Coral Gables, FL, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Serial killing for the intelligent watcher The subject could have been gory and horrible but the treatment of this film is brilliant. It has a strong story, excellently cast and portrayed characters and a well paced plot. Based on a genuine serial killer, the horror of his actions is highlighted by the understatement, leaving the true extent of his atrocities to the imagination. The detective his men and his family are real humans, not superheros and Donald Sutherland, as teh general in charge, is great, as always. Well worth the four year hunt to find a DVD copy Submitted by a reviewer (Wollongong, Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Great Movie - Really Riveting This movie is really intense. It shows how authorities in Russia refused to believe that such a thing as a serial killer could have developed in Russia. It also shows the damaging effects that the stress has on the police whose responsibility it is to find and solve these types of crimes. I really enjoyed this movie. Brilliantly sad. Saw this movie years ago, and it still stays with me. If you are interested in true crimes then this is the one to watch, it puts Dahmer and Bundy to shame. Submitted by crook1 (Brisbane Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$6.29 Bob Rafelson's THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE features a gorgeous young wife, a dull older husband, and a sexy drifter--perfect noir ingredients in a recipe for murder. While hitchhiking his way to Los Angeles during the depression, Frank Chambers (Jack Nicholson) stops at a small roadside café where he meets the beautiful Cora (Jessica Lange). He decides to stick around, taking her husband, Nick (John Colicos), up on his offer of a job; but Frank and Cora very quickly decide that they'd rather not have Nick around. With its high-voltage cast, screenwriter (playwright David Mamet), and cinematographer (Sven Nykvist, who previously worked with Ingmar Bergman), Rafelson's adaptation of James M. Cain's novel has the makings of an engaging thriller. The novel had previously been filmed by director Tay Garnett for ...
