Good Day to Die album for sale Product Description
Good Day to Die album for sale by Absinthe was released Nov 06, 1998 on the Llanas label. Although A Good Day to Die features three members of Midwest rockers the BoDeans, the real star of the act is former BoDean Sam Llanas, who clearly lets his inner thoughts gush onto this album. The title track deals with the suicide of his brother Tom. Llanas quotes some of his advice from his older brother: "Sammy, you're smart/you got a good soul/so if you blow it I'm going to kick your ass." "It Don't Bother Me" is a dark tune that features Llanas' rich, haunted voice, and "Still Alone" is filled with sadness and desperation. ...See Full Description

| ABSINTHE Any band that names itself Absinthe and it's first album "A Good Day To Die" is clearly going for the sensational, so it comes as no surprise to learn that the group's singer-songwriter is Sam Llanas of Wisconsin roots-rockers the BoDeans. This side project features Llanas's familiar voice and melodic flair, but in a darker, starker mode that supplements the guitar-bass-drums trio with cello, keyboards, and on "It Don't Bother Me," two female vocalists. Absinthe also features Guy Hoffman, the original 1986 BoDean's drummer, as well as Jim Eannelli on guitars and frettless bass. The inspiration for this stylistic shift is suitably somber: the 1976 suicide of Llanas's older brother. The title song is a direct account of that event, which is also echoed by such songs as "Still Alone" and "Dying In My Dreams." Gary Tanin's keyboards on both the title track and "Messed Up Likes Of Us' propel the songs along, while the chanting of Hoffman and Eannelli on "Still Alone" give the tune a sense of age and despair. By tying in a tight, charming melody Absinthe succeeds in taking a sad song and making it better. By a reviewer (Los Angeles, CA) |
