This 93 minute DVD feature film from 1958 stars Clark Gabl e, Burt Lancaster, Jack Warden, Brad Dexter, Don Rickles an d Nick Cravat & is in black & white. "Run silent, run deep" is a term that accurately describes the mission of the submarine in this tense World War II drama. Commander Richardson (Clark Gable) is the only survivor when his sub is hit by a notorious Japanese destroyer dubbed Bongo Pete in the Bongo Straits of Japan. Back at Pearl Harbor, Richardson obsessively plays out strategies that would have saved his crew. When he is reassigned a new ship in the Pacific, he must face old demons as well as the sub's younger executive officer who was slated for captain, Lt. Bledsoe (Burt Lancaster). Bledsoe has the support of his crew and locks horns easily with Richardson, but when the captain disobeys navy orders to stay clear of the Bongo Straits, taking the crew right in to go after Bongo Pete, there is very nearly a mutiny. RUN SILENT, RUN DEEP is marked by strong performances, particularly by Gable, and a taut script. The scenes of the rigorous sub drills the captain puts his crew through are intensive and exceptional.

Cary Grant and Tony Curtis star as naval officers in this service comedy, one of the director's favorite genres. When Adm. Matt Sherman's (Grant) submarine, the Sea Tiger, is damaged during the attack on Pearl Harbor, he needs to find spare parts to have it recommissioned. Into the breach steps aide Lt. Nick Holden (Curtis), a master con man and wheeler-dealer who begins scheming to acquire the materials needed to fix the sub while the appalled Sherman looks the other way. Once the sub is deemed seaworthy, they stop at an island where Holden picks up a couple of Filipino families and five navy nurses who have been stranded there. The arrival of the extremely attractive nurses in the sub's cramped quarters has the predicted effect on the young, all-male crew, who soon find concentrating on their work to be an impossible task. The women also have their own ideas about the renovation of the submarine, one of which involves painting it pink. Gray (Heather Graham) and Sam (Thomas Cavanagh) are inseparable. They live together, take ballroom dancing classes, and jog in the park together.
